Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Is there some factual error there that needs correcting?

Looks like a statement of fact to me.

Be polite. Everyone should feel comfortable reading Submissions and participating in discussions. Apple will not tolerate flames or other inappropriate statements, material, or links. Most often, a "flame" is simply a statement that is taunting and thus arbitrarily inflammatory. However, this also includes those which are libelous, defamatory, indecent, harmful, harassing, intimidating, threatening, hateful, objectionable, discriminatory, abusive, vulgar, obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or offensive in a sexual, racial, cultural, or ethnic context.

Continually belittling people because they do not have thousands of points, so do not have any opinion worthwhile (in these individuals own opinion) is surely contrary to the above?

Other comments many times each day, bragging about how many points they have, and how many people they have helped (mostly it seems by basic “reset phone” suggestions) could be classed as taunting

A recent example “Do not tell me what to post, you also have provided no help that any other poster felt worthy of note. Riddick posts rubbish and lies and then is unable to back them up, as far as I know you are the same. Your reputation is at Zero, that tells me all I need to know and reminds me not to follow your suggestion.”

And later that day “He is a ***** (check the UK dictionaries)” This definitely is contrary to the agreement - before the individual denies this, remember even though it has been deleted (thanks Apple) people will have received an e-mail with the comments

I have not denied it, keep your words out of my mouth, I don't need you speaking for me.

It is truly fascinating how some individuals can join a forum and immediately begin to tell others how it should be run.

There are lots of things you can try like resetting defaults(wipe and load), buying a new router, or visiting your Apple store but I think for most of us here the only thing that will fix it is to wait for Apple.  At least that's what I'm doing as I've pretty much done everything and I still have issues that began with IOS 8.x.

Many thanks, London_Lad. I did the same (actually reported three) and as you know by now many of the offensive posts were removed. If we continue to do this perhaps we can bring this thread to its intended purpose, post issues and potential solutions, not insults.

    How did that go?

It went well. Many of your offensive posts were removed.

You need a reputation level before you can report people. You have none, so be it.

Not true.  I received replies from the moderator thanking me and informing that the posts had been removed.

    Thanks

All your suggestions had been tried with iOS 8 and none worked.  I think I/we need to wait apple for a fix as happened with ios 8.1. Really disappointed anyway.

    THanks

Didn't you see the comment "You need a reputation level before you can report people. You have none, so be it."

So it appears anyone who is a zero is not allowed to report abuse.

And one of them has commented "This is a tech support forum, your posts have nothing to do with that, or the topic of the thread. I shall report them for removal."

So we cannot report them, but they can report anyone they like. Great forum this is

Antonio, have you tried turning AirDrop and Bluetooth OFF to see if it makes any difference? It is a long shot but easy to check.

Bob, according to Apple, it takes a Level 2 (150 points) to report a post directly to a host.

Thanks for that - as you saw Insiderinformation quoted that paragraph but it doesn't seem to have done any good. Perhaps I should e-mail the support people if as you say anyone is allowed to report abuse
