Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Didn't you see the comment "You need a reputation level before you can report people. You have none, so be it."

So it appears anyone who is a zero is not allowed to report abuse.

And one of them has commented "This is a tech support forum, your posts have nothing to do with that, or the topic of the thread. I shall report them for removal."

So we cannot report them, but they can report anyone they like. Great forum this is

You can provide enough help to others to get yourself up to a level 2, then you can use the reporting mechanism yourself. If you prefer not to provide help and carry on as you are that is your choice.

Posters with with no demonstrated ability to help others or provide solutions number in the millions, the only way to judge their abilities is by the points awarded to them by the people they helped.

You're being unfair!  Don't you realize how extremely difficult it is to obtain 150 points?

    Let's start with the basics:

    1) reset your router and speed test again.

    2) update your router's firmware if you haven't.

    3) list your router's make, model and current firmware version (always)

    4) network reset your devices (are they under warranty by the way?)

    Also:

    5) suggestion going forward: if you have two iOS devices, always update one only/first (do test installs first).

    6) from what iOS version(s) did you upgrade from?

No - but obviously Philly_Phan is

And I thought points were awarded for helping people, technical tips etc. So how did this justify?

Points are awarded by one poster to another, why don't you ask the poster who awarded them, Apple has nothing to do with it, and I didn't award them.

Do you actually know how the points system works, who may award them and how many etc?

You'll have to ask the individual that checked the box.

By the way, no points were awarded in that instance.  Don't be concerned.  If you participate for a while and actually begin to help others, you'll learn the system.

That is the way it should be. However since there are several here who post rude and insensitive comments there should be a way of awarding negative points.

Don't know, don't care.  It does't affect me in the least.

Perhaps after you're here for a while and you've established a reputation for helping others, your suggestions might be considered.  In the meantime, you'll have to live with the rules as they exist.

Do you realize that if your proposal were actually in effect, you'd be below zero?

Yes, that seems to be the prevailing attitude.  Complete total newbies with zero reputation think that they can decide how the forum should be run.

Strange though it might seem, I thought Apple decided on how forums are run. After all they publish the terms of use

    Obviously I was mistaken

That is how it is being run, that is why your and other posts are being removed. The system is working just fine
