Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I must have downloaded a different IOS then, I got the version without bugs.

Apparently I have the same version that you have.

People without issues don't post here, it's like the ER at the hospital. Most people are sick, but it is not representative of the world in general.

I can only repeat that nothing I have owned or used suffers from any of the issues yours does.

OK whatever - I'm glad you showed up. I acquired some more of those points recently. I felt like a god, I couldn't wait to show my wife, friends and everybody at work. I think I they were all very envious. Anyway I just wondered what do with them - as I am now a wise authority on all things apple like you surely everything should just work perfectly now. Maybe Apple will send me a special bug free iOS like they did you!

Why are you obsessed with points?

I Agree to a point but you'll find many many users just get on with it and accept the bugs. They probably don't know the forum exists. Many friends complain but just let it go, most can't be bothered.

The discoveryd articles are getting plentiful.

Yes indeed. Jay Lee who writes the Computer Help Line for the Houston Chronicle wrote about it today. The title is Apple operating system upgrade has WiFi working at snail's pace.

As I have mentioned Apple contacted me by email and phone after iOS 8.3 and collected substantial data for their engineering / development team. This issue is real and Apple is working on it.

He wrote about Yosemite OS for Mac.  I didn't bother reading it because I have two Yosemite Macs, neither of which is experiencing any issues.

Wifi, thumbnails no longer showing on ripped TV shows, TV shows not sorting correctly unless director field is populated (***), usage and list of stuff using it not reconciling, iTunes sync unreliable via USB/wifi, iOS and iTunes reporting different free space left, search function on iOS glitches on emails (not from within app), iPad usage iCloud no longer backs up automatically if you are unlucky enough to be hit with storage 1 gig bug instead of displaying 5 gigs as it should ( actually I think iOS 8.3 started that one), iTunes sync no longer shows date stamp in iOS ...... I could go on and on and on. None of this was an issue on iOS 7. so there you have many reasons I am not happy. Many of these bugs were submitted during beta but iOS 8 just got released anyway and despite repeated feedback it does no good as they donot get addressed. The discoveryd issue id gathering some momentum so who knows.

Unfortunately I have a couple of those bugs myself and one that you did not report regarding the Photos App (I have an open ticket with AppleCare, issue at Engineering now).

Regarding the iCloud storage bug there is a Level 3 user that started a thread on this:  iCloud Total Storage incorrect

and there is a Level 10 user, Demo with 83,000+ points reporting that he has the bug himself....

The storage display glitch was first reported today, I also saw it on my iPad (only) iPhones and all my Macs are unaffected, but it's a display glitch, I still have the same amount of storage regardless of the display. A reboot of the iPad cured it.

I'm off the phone with the supervisor now. I guess what we did was back up my iPad and then reset my iPad to start it up and answer all the questions from the "Hello and welcome to your iPad"-dialog. I'm on version 8.3 now without any of my old goods on it. I'm going to run it for a day or two and then reconnect with support to let them know whether I'm still experiencing any any problems loading things from the Internet. We did broadband-speed-tests from my Macbook Pro via Share My Screen for them, so they know it's a fast connection in spite of the iPad performance, so let's see what this gives. If it wouldn't work, we will discuss alternate solutions to get a working iPad in my hands. The supervisor was very helpful. Not a single complaint there. The support prior to the supervisor was not of very much help. And at the end of the day, I don't really know what people that don't have WiFi-problems are doing posting in this thread that they're not experiencing issues. Maybe they're just lonely?

Post back when some time has passed so I won't be lonely.

Why are you posting here?  Clearly the forum has not solved your issues.
