Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

HI, I think you are looking for a bit of help from this forum, so I suspect being told to look through a thread of over 2800 posts was not what you expected, and not really helpful at all.

THe bottom line is iOS 8 has introduced some bugs, including wi-fi issues for some of us which have not yet been resolved, and for which no one can say why it is some devices are affected whilst others work fine.

As you have an iPhone 6 then my best advice is go to an Apple Store or your mobile provider and demand they sort this out. I take it from your name that you are in th UK,, so even if phone is over 12 months old it is still covered under consumer law, so they must fix it.

Don't listen to posters who tell you there is nothing you can do, just read the posts prior to my earlier one, fifteen people who stopped complaining and followed advice, and fixed it.

Even I have Wiki Connectivity issues. Tried all channel settings, reset wifi settings, reset iPhone (thrice) but no luck.

I connected my laptop with LAN/Wifi (it works always) and setup a hotspot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFHIvCMTqbQ) in Windows 7. Then connected iPhone 6 with hotspot. It is working perfectly. I can receive the same speed (2.5MBps) in the iPhone. If I don't use the phone for 2 hours and then I have to disconnect my wifi connection in iPhone and connect again and it works otherwise wifi is not working in iPhone again.

Hope Apple fix the issue in the next release.

Working at home my wifi connection shows up as operational on my  IPAD air, and on my router, but when I try to connect any application to the internet a timeout ending in failure occurs. The most helpful is the Safari failure which reports that "server not found" message. My old IPAD, and all my other mobile phones and PC's have no problem connecting to the internet or with wifi .

The problem on  the IPAD Air seems to have arisen only since IOS 8.3 was installed. No amount of resettiing or redefining the wifi connection will solve this problem, nor will rebooting the IPAD Air. This has to be some kind of DNS hiccup. The problem is INTERMITTENT  which makes it worse.

I set my Wireless Network Mode to N-Only (2.4 GHz). After that my iPhone Wifi is working perfectly. May be I will wait for few days and post whether it is really working or not.

That's correct but Csound was referencing fixes, not workarounds.

Are you always so negative?, the posters have fixed the problem that they were having, maybe it's time you stopped criticizing and tried for yourself.

Workarounds are different to fixes - like you get a headache every day, taking an aspirin is a workaround as it will relieve the symptoms but it may not cure the underlying problem

Various people have suggested workarounds as temporary solutions - but how long will it be before the problem comes back? I have tried most, if not all, those suggested. Wi-Fi works for a few days then starts dropping out again

The fix will be when Apple updates software so it is as stable as IOS7 was.

Never mind, you can continue collecting your points by telling people to read through 100+ pages

So, tell us how long they will last. I don't have the ability to see (imagine) the future so I will leave that to you.

    Hi Philly

Interesting that Stanky and crew now come back to criticize the posters that took a little action for themselves and fixed their issues. Stanky et al are very negative.

That is my point - a workaround is a temporary solution. It may last an hour, a day, possibly a week - but then the problem comes back. What is needed is a permanent fix, and that is something only Apple can do
