Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I was hitting a similar problem and changing the channel to channel 149 gave me relief and I am back online , this is in no way a solution but might give you some relief.Things we know have worked

    1.  Change Channel to 149 --> Worked for some

    2. Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 --> Worked for some

    3. Change WEP to WPA 2 --> Worked for some

Some users have reported 2.4Ghz is good.

Also sharing the Router, security, channel info will help narrow down the best config to get our devices back...

I can't pay LTE data instead of my wifi , before these guys cook a fix... am wondering if they are even reading these reports

As the thread initiator I kind of feel responsible for the things that get posted in this thread. All replies are sent to my mail and I read all of them. This thread was intended to make Apple aware that some of us is having problems with Wi-Fi after upgrading to iOS 8 and hopefully speed up the process of Apple making a software fix. I really love my iPads and Apple for making them. It would therefore breake my heart if this thread is turned into an Apple hate campaign. I am certain all posts on Appels Support Communities are read very carefully by several Apple employees, but Apple risks losing a lot of myomey if they make an official statement about a problem that may be gone by tomorrow. Instead I suspect some of the more helpfull post are written by Apple engineers pretending to be regular users. I trust Apple will correct all problems in iOS 8 as fast as possible.

iPad air and iPhone 5s both have wifi issues. Apparently I got infected with the "iOS 8" virus lol. I get about 5 minutes of wifi once an hour on the iPad and constant crappy wifi with iPhone. This is my fourth time trying to post by the way (currently on iPad). I am a lifelong Apple guy and have always bragged on how flawless Apple products worked to all those "android" people. Now who's the idiot? Please Apple do something or at least acknowledge that there is a big problem.

    Hello All,

All the users who are seeing issue with Wi-Fi after upgrade to iOS 8, follow the below instructions :-

Navigate to Privacy - Location Services - System Services ( at the bottom ) - WiFi Networking.

By default Wi-Fi Networking will be on .. turn it off.

It worked for me, hope it will work for you all too.

I Don't consider you, or me for that matter, an idiot for buying Apple. Even with flaws, and I consider this a big one, they are still the best products around. But the next time I rush to download a new build on the first day, before the bugs are ironed out, I will have nobody to blame but my, then, idiot self.

SO let's go Apple. 20+ pages can't All be experiencing a hardware problem. And to those of you who are, most probably, Apple people masquerading as posters to this thread, if you truly believe in your products, have the guts to identify yourselves and get to work on the fix that will most definatrly come.

I know, they are the best. I'm just frustrated and not used to these kind of issues with Apple. Any issues actually.

iPhone 6 64gb experiencing incredibly slow wifi speed at home via Verizon ActionTec MI424WR Rev. E.

I have tried several of the so-called workaround, which improve things briefly (that background wifi reset some have spoken of, I imagine), but speeds soon regress back to super slow. Went to the Apple store, spoke briefly with a tech, tried the Ookla speed test there and it was fine. After my experiences with the workarounds, it seems I should have stuck around longer to see if speeds regressed.

I think PhilipPeake is right. We just have to wait for an update. Not happy.
