Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

HI, I did manage to upgrade my only Apple device having wi-fi issues ( an iPhone 4s  which had no problems on 7 ) to 8.4 late last night and touch wood, now appears to be fully functional but still early days. What I will not do is upgrade my working iPad etc as thanks to your response and others, it does seem the wi- fi issues are still not fully resolved with this latest version, so will stick to older versions that are working. I noticed you have naively tried to use logic like I did with regard to what is causing the problems, but as you have found out, you are up against a few flat earth society members on this forum.

Sorry if my response highlighted your hypocrisy with regard to posting off topic, but I think you actually posted me so why can' t I address you with my reply?

    What an arrogance.

@hosts - Excellent work of not monitoring.

Some people keep insulting every person who comes here. And you do not take any action.

    Excellent just excellent!

Welcome to the forum. If you take the time to go back several pages you will see the same two users appear frequently, simply stating there is no problem and as you commented insulting everyone else

You could try reporting them, but other have before and it makes no difference. Apparantly because they are experts they are exempt from the rules that apply to everyone else

Actually I am not new to forum! Here since March or so.

Reported the WiFi issue at that time. And ever since I am noticing 2-3 people insulting every new member.

Sad to see this happening in a world's biggest company's forum.

Here is what I keep observing:

    1. Some new person joins and asks for help regarding WiFi issue
    2. Xyz person immediately insults him and tells him to go to Apple store / Genius
    3. New person indicates he is not willing to go to Apple. Afterall why is this forum named as "Support community"?
    4. Then Xyz person asks if the new person understands meaning of something he (XYZ person) said?
    5. New person tries to explain what he meant or thought.
    6. Xyz person then replies - "if you do not know meaning then leave the forum or dont troll" etc.

And it repeats for every new member

And the "experts" normal solution to any problem is:-

Carry out a reset of device

    Go to Apple store

If someone suggests it may be an issue with an Apple product frequently a link is posted to google page about the earth being flat.

One posted a link about wi-fi issues with IOS7, presumably to indicate it is not IOS8. But that simply proves that new software is probably the cause (and on one of the pages some years ago people were complaining about the same two "experts" not contributing anything)

Obviously there are millions of Apple devices in use, the majority may work OK. But how many have this bug and simply suffer?

Not every new member, just the ones with fairy tales, and the ones who try to stop a solution being found by others (fortunately most seem to manage to fix their issue in spite of your interference)

It doesn't matter, most posters ignore this silly little clique and get a solution despite the off topic and irrelevant noise coming from them. Ignored is as they should be, they are the main obstacle to success.

    Wait for it ......

These posters ignored the doom clubs pleas to do nothing but complain, they were rewarded with success. DonWan, Baldy, Stanky, Wobbly, Riddick and their fan club recommend doing nothing, but this is what happens when you ignore their plea.

I had the same problem on the devices I updated through wifi, a restore as new, then restore of my iCloud back up fixed the issue.

Thanks for clarifying, we can now see that rather than make any helpful suggestions yourself you simply copy what other people have said (and many of them are "zeros")
