Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

As far as I know you are not elcpu, so no, the question is not answered.

Similar problems with me.. my iPhone 5 is getting worse after update to another update? last update seems fine, still has bugs but fine, now it came back to almost totally nothing! this is a nightmare one problem after another.. it also affects my 3G/LTE performance.. every single day I have to deal with this issue.. I don`t have an iPad or any other apple products but seriously this bug is already out of hand.. especially while I am playing COC always disconnecting to the network and it`s no fun at all! i got a very fast wireless connection though but when I connect my iPhone 5 via wifi? the problem starts on my phone not getting the best performance it has to be.

I do hope the upcoming IOS 9 will surely or purely fix all this problems! hate to say it but if this problems keep on occurring? I won`t be surprised if people start switching to android?

What info are you looking at my post? It's stated that I don't have any other Apple products just the iphone 5? And since I updated it to iOS 8.4 my wifi connection problems gotten worst? Tried doing a fresh update again but it's still the same. Info? iPhone 5 updated to iOS 8.4, wifi issue, lag or dropped out of network, sometimes wifi signal is gone going back to 3G/LTE after a few minutes switch Back to wifi. Same prob. over and over.

So what have you tried? You did't even mention that you had iOS 8.4

BrnB, the problems you describe have been experienced by many on this thread. There is a known issue with the networking routine in iOS 8 which affects a subset of users. Apple is aware of it, they have been in contact with many here (me included) and collected logs. You could try turning Bluetooth OFF which has helped some but don't hold your breath. iOS 9 is scheduled for release in the fall and hopefully will solve the issues.

There have been numerous suggestions, but none of them provide a permanent solution. When I have the problem I restart my phone, it will then work for a few days before needing to restart again.

Same with resetting & restoring, resetting network settings, restarting router, turning airplane mode on (then off again). Some suggest buying a new router, I haven't done this as I'm not convinced it will cure the problem and would rather not spend on something that may or may not work.

If you take the time to read through all the posts, this problem started with IOS8. When IOS8.3 can out it made things a lot better, but for me IOS8.4 was a retrograde step as the drop-outs go worse

Like elcpu said, there is a major release of IOS9 planned for September

Umm no. Look for yourself, then search the same phrase on IOS6 and Android phones

I have had my iPhone 6+ for at least a few months with no issue. Had an update to 8.4 and now I can't walk 10 feet from my WiFi router without it dropping. iPhone 5s on iOS 8.3 in the other hand has 0 problems. It seems to also effect my bluetooth. If the phone is more than 2 feet from any bluetooth device, it starts to have issues.

Worth a shot always but the Release Notes for 8.4.1 only list Music improvements.

This release includes improvements and fixes to Apple Music.

    - Resolves issues that could prevent turning on iCloud Music Library

    - Resolves an issue that hides added music because Apple Music was set to show offline music only

    - Provides a way to add songs to a new playlist if there aren't any playlists to choose from

    - Resolves an issue that may show different artwork for an album on other devices

    - Resolves several issues for artists while posting to Connect

    - Fixes an issue where tapping Love doesn't work as expected while listening to Beats 1
