Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Unfortunately I can't do this because I'm unable to turn off Find My Phone.

Turning off Wifi Networking hasn't solved the problem on my iPad Air though so far my iPhone 6 is behaving. Thing is they cut out at random so I'll need more time to see if that has solved the issue on my phone.

My iPad still doesn't like iOS8 though

Come on Apple this is ridiculous. I agree with those that can't believe this has been released to the general public. A potentially widespread problem you'd think would have been detected before release...?

I have the same exact issue. Happens with my iPhone 5 and iPad Air... every time I hook these up to power outlet, my entire home network comes to a stop (iDevices + PC + Mac lose internet connectivity in spite of full router signal strength). At first I thought charging cable was forming some kind of signal warp to interfere with router but you may have a point about the iCloud sucking all bandwidth, leaving little for anything else such as browsing or even downloading email.

I'm surprised though not too many people have this problem

Whilst that is a workaround for some it shouldn't have to be done. Apple rushed ios 8 to co incide with the iphone 6 released and didn't QA test well. Even those reporting feedback during QA get ignored anyway as apple just does its own thing. Why they couldn't allow the iphone 6 to run ios 7 I don't know. It would be an easier life for all of us and also them. If they want to add new features do it in incremental point updates. My wifi works great on iPad third gen. but 5s it is odd. It never drops out but is slow to detect AirPlay now and does drop speed on random occasions often then recovering with no input from me or necessitating a reboot. This is in 2.4 band whilst 5 seems flawless . Very odd behaviour. Something which was not present in ios 7 where wifi and all the phone features worked more or less perfectly

That's another point I forgot to mention as well as the Wifi dropping out randlomly. All idevices are not picking up one of my two Airplay devices at all.

For devices that are mobile and so heavily focused on being connected, this is not good work from Apple. It's the first thing they should ensure is working in my opinion. Keep your health app until you've got the basics working first eh?

Just got the Iphone 6 plus (Paid $850) and I am also having these same issues with the WIFI and is driving me crazy. This would not have happen if Steve Jobs was still around. Very disappointing Apple!!!!!!

Yep wifi is the life blood of the iphone in my eyes. I couldn't give a monkeys about the health app they seem to be drooling over. I am a lazy so and so and just want good wifi. New features all well and good but not when it breaks or hampers existing functionality like wifi, bluetooth, home sharing , AirPlay etc

Tried this - had to reset network settings but it seems to work - so far, so good; only tried it for a short time though.  My other workarounds have been OK for several days.

Now three workarounds that seem to work (for me on my iPad Air) - independently - either:

    Link via 2.4GHz or

Link via 5GHz fixed channel 46 or

... turn off WiFi networking as above.

In fact, using Ookla, the last one seems to give more stable and faster download and upload speeds

Not having any issues with iOS 8 and Internet speed.  Safari is working just fine. No lag. Made no changes to my Verizon Actiontec router either.  Running WPA2 encryption.  This is my iPad Air Wi-Fi Only device

Lucky you! I hope it stays that way

Btw it's not Internet speed I'm having issues with, it's with dropped connections. When it is working I still get my normal ~45mbps downloads etc...
