Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

iOS8.0.1        HAHAHAHA WHY DID I GET MY HOPES UP. Worked normal for a few minutes after installing then BOOM it  started happening again. I've been using 8.0.1 for the last hour and it has disconnected and refused to find my router until a restart, exactly 5 times.

Hi everybody, Im new in this forum.

I have registered because my iPad Air 32GB is un-usable after iOS 8.0.1 update. Wifi works for a couple of minutes and then is completely KO. Disabling wifi and re-enabling in the iPad gives me 2-3 minutes more until is down again. I have restored the iPad and configured as new device, even I have upgraded my router firmware (D-Link 868-L). All for nothing.

This is the first time I receive an Apple software update that makes my device non-usable. Please correct it!

    Regards,

Same issue here.  Ookla Speedtest over Wi-Fi on iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8 and resetting network settings: 7.34 Mbps down.  Ookla Speedtest on MacBook Air, carried out on same Wi-Fi network moments later: 30.01 Mbps down.

    Unacceptable Apple.

I'm afraid Phillip's observation from yesterday is right. There are just too many of us who've tried the dozens and dozens of workarounds and they simply do nothing for a whole lot of us, and frankly I'm weary of trying (and I did try ... every little suggestion ... may as well have sprinkled salt on the keyboard and pretended it was fairy dust).  Hope springs eternal, however, so I thought I'd go snag the patch ... and then discovered iTunes doesn't see my phone. That was probably the case the last couple of days as well and I just didn't notice because I hadn't connected to iTunes. I have the most recent version of iTunes (downloaded the new ones both at home and the office in the last couple of days hoping that would somehow fix the iOS 8 problem with wifi connection ... it didn't), so should I uninstall the latest iTunes version and try to go back to the previous one (if I can even find it)?  Not sure how I'm going to download the 8.1 patch if I can't connect to either wifi or iTunes. My phone is now just a phone like any other phone, and my iPad Air's a glorified reader -- and the inability to connect to wifi is taking a toll on my data plan. I don't have unlimited data because I've never needed it, and having to do everything LTE is going to get expensive.

If it helps, I'm running a 5Ghz WPA wifi (D-Link 868-L is dual band router), over a 100mbps fiber-optic internet connection.

The iPhone 5S, also updated to iOS 8.0.1, has not problems. The wifi connection with it is stable, and Ookla speedtest gives me approx. 92mbps download. I also have a Macbook Air with no wifi problems.

The iPad, as I said, works well the first minutes and after then can't connect to the internet.

So Engadget reported that the 8.0.1 was pulled. Apparently had more issues than fixes. Go figure. People at apple must be pulling their hair with this disaster of OS 8

    iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

Tried this - had to reset network settings but it seems to work - so far, so good; only tried it for a short time though.  My other workarounds have been OK for several days.

Now three workarounds that seem to work (for me on my iPad Air) - independently - either:

    Link via 2.4GHz or

Link via 5GHz fixed channel 46 or

... turn off WiFi networking as above.

In fact, using Ookla, the last one seems to give more stable and faster download and upload speeds

Whoops, spoke too soon... Turning off WiFi networking only worked for about 30mins

Just yesterday I proclaimed myself to not be an idiot.  Today, Hello everyone, it's me, the idiot. I installed the update this morning (about a half hour before they pulled it).  It turned my phone into the nicest looking paperweight on my desk.  Would not connect to either my home network or Verizon.  Two very knowledgeable techs at the Genius Bar tried for about 40 minutes to get it to do anything. Not a chance. While waiting for my turn, I saw 3 others complain of our ongoing wifi problem, and another schmo with the same problem as mine. Apple quickly replaced my 128GB 6. His parting words were, "Ignore the updates for a while". I'll try, but being a now confirmed idiot......

For what its worth, I'm posting my speed tests for all my iPad devices. Seems like my iPad Air gets the closest to my 75/75 connection. The last screen shot is my PC Windows 8.1 on a wired gigabit LAN connection. Seems like it gets worse as you go back iPad generations

I'm glad they were nice enough to replace your phone with a non iOS 8.0.1 bricked one.  In the future, I will be searching Google for news about any iOS updates before installing them.

I Think is pure coincidence, there is people with brand new iPhones 6 reporting the issue. And I have a brand new iPad mini which have the issue and one that it does not.
