Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Yeah you're right. It was pulled after 1hr 15mins of going live!

It seems the iOS 8 update was for bricking wifi. iOS 8.0.1 was for bricking cellular! lol

Having terrible problems connecting to Virgin Media WiFi in London Underground.

Phone sometimes goes through the login screen automatically, sometimes I have to open a website myself, and sometimes it's totally unresponsive when connected to tube wifi...

Home wifi works fine, so seems to be some sort of problem with public wifi hotspots. MAC obfuscation maybe playing a role?

Same problems here. tried to restore a beackup through iTunes, but it tells me to switch off "find my ipad". This is impossible since you need a working connection to icloud to switch it off .

I Have tried all suggestions for a wifi fix and they only work temporarily. I have a dual band router and switched from 5GHz to 2.4GHz and wifi has been working for almost 24 hrs now. It's still a little slow, but it is working...for now.

Within that 1 hour and 15 minutes of 8.0.1 release, I've upgraded my IPAD AIR to the 8.0.1 Here are my symptoms:

    1. 5.0 GHz WIFI works fine - Streaming works good - There is some slowness but not to mention.

    2. Battery - dead after couple of hours.

With 8.0 I had fixed the issue by:

    1. Switch connection to 2.4 GHz

    2. Turn off any unnecessary new enhancements such as hand-offs and others

Nothing so far seems to work well to solve the Wi-Fi problems created by IOS8.  The best thing to do is to wait for the "Genius" at Apple to fix their own mess and post the correct fix.  Never, again will I download any upgrades when they are just released.  Learn my lesson.  It is the third time I have had this type of problems.  Next time I will wait at least 6 months before I download any upgrades.  Apple needs to get their act together.  Just creating beautiful phones or tablets is not enough if the software is not running properly.  Shame on you Apple.  Very disappointing and seriously considering if it is worth continue patronizing Apple products.

Both of my iPhone 5c and iPad 2 running on iOS 8 affected. My router is on 2.4 Ghz and is still slow. Until I decided to downgrade it to iOS 7.1.2 again. Now it works like a charm, i've only tried this on the iPad.

I feel like georgemadeira: I'm not normally an idiot, but I'm feeling like one now. When Windows pushes new operating systems, I never, ever download them until all the problems are resolved, and we all know why. I've never had that problem with Apple though. Every new iOS, every update to an app, etc., I found safe to download and never waited to see if they were problematic. This is the first time Apple's disappointed me in that regard, so I'm inclined to cut them some slack for allowing a business decision to override their tech sense. On the other hand, I don't want to wait forever for my devices to find their home network again. I'm perilously close to exceeding my data limit, and I really don't want to  pay -- literally -- for Apple's mistake.
