Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Disabling cellular data while you're using wifi fixed the issue for me! Been 7 hours and going strong.

I have an iphone 6 64gb, having the same issue.  I have an old iPhone 4S running ios 7, and my new iphone 6.  When connected to wifi, the iphone 4S opens a webpage instantly.  It takes the iPhone 6 several minutes before the page will open.  This is very frustrating.  I have to keep my wifi on my iphone 6 turned OFF, which is KILLING my data plan.     Any chance of Apple reimbursing us for data overages since we need to keep our wifi off?  hahaha!

Its good that some workarounds help but disabling cellular - that's great Apple! The other key thing about a phone is being able to use cellular. So I cant take any calls from a non iPhone user just to make wifi work. iOS 8 is a total farce !

HAppened to me too. Fixed that by disabling cellular for temporary when you're at home or office using wifi. If you're outside and not using wifi, turn the cellular data back on.

IF you disable cellular data in settings, you can still recieve sms and calls.

I have an iPad Air on iOS 8. I have a BT Home Hub 5. I was noticing that my wifi kept disappearing or stopping. My fix was to disable smart channel selection and select a fixed channel on both bands (2.4 and 5Ghz) then do a reset network settings. So far it's working fine touch wood. 2.4GHz channel is 6 (1,6 or 11 recommended). 5GHz channel is 44 (36,40,44 or 48 recommended).

Upgraded to IOS 8 on my iPhone 5 and not had an issue. IPad Air completely different ball game. Very intermittent wifi connections  with IOS8, was perfect with IOS7.

issues I'm experiencing connecting to both 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi are:

    loss of wifi signal completely.

slow connection to wifi access point

IP address disappearing and replaced  with the 169.254.X.X address Intermittently

no wifi traffic, have to turn wifi off then back on. Sometimes even having to completely power off the iPad.

tried the DNS, the location fix, resetting network connections and these worked to begin with, having uninterrupted access for a whole evening, day after, back to normal with the issues above. iphone  works absolutely fine.

im connected to a BT fibre home hub., speeds test with iphone 5 : d/l 56mbps u/l 18mbps ipad connected to same wifi point, same frequency d/l 37mbps u/l 14mbps.

ccome on Apple, sort this mess out ASAP!!!!

What happened to IOS 8 MAC Address randomisation?

    • In iPhone 5s, MAC randomization happens only under the following conditions:
      • Phone is in sleep mode (display off, not being used)
      • Wi-Fi should be ON but not associated
      • Location services should be OFF in privacy settings

Ah spoke to soon. Wifi gone to pot again. Only thing that's fixed it for me is to use my apple extreme router for wifi on my iPad air and iPad retina. Shame as my iPhone's work fine on my BT home hub 5 On iOS 8.

My Ipad Air has starting dropping the wifi after upgrading to ios 8.  Here is a link that I found that seems to solve the problem.  Once you follow the instructions, you will have to put your wifi password back in.  http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-fix-ios-8-wifi-issues-on-iphone-and-ipad/

iOS 8.0.2 is now available!  Who is going to be the first to dare try it?  Let's hope it fixes Wifi, not just Healthkit.

    iMac 10,1 w Mavericks 10.9.5 and iPad Air iOS8.0

    This worked for me:

    1. Plug iOS8 iPad Air into iMac w iTunes11.

    2. iTunes11/Devices/iPad/Summary/Options

    3. UNCHECK both Open iTunes when . . ., and Sync w this iPad over Wi-Fi.

    4. Hit APPLY (DO NOT Skip Apply)

    5. Unplug iPad Air

    REBOOT iMac

    1. iTunes11/Devices/iPad/Summary/Options

    2. CHECK both, Open iTunes when . . ., and Sync w this iPad over Wi-Fi.

    3. Hit APPLY (DO NOT Skip Apply)

iTunes11 now sees my iPad Air and continues to see it through Wi-Fi. Maybe the simple

APPLY that I had skipped earlier. Not sure why it was necessary to uncheck and check.

Not ME. I'll scope out this board for a lot of days first. It's a "Fool Me Once" kinda thing. Good luck to all that venture into this new update, fingers are crossed for all of us.

I took the dive and the 8.02 seems to have fixed several issues I was having with Safari.  Neither our iphone 5's and ipad 4's were plagued with the cellular or wifi issues, thankfully.  So far so good for the new fix.
