Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Good news Scottie. I'm afraid to try updating further. while I would like to have faith, I have visions of hitting the update button and smoke suddenly pouring from my iPad.... : /.  Has anyone else tried updating? Good luck everyone.

MMy question is when downloading to go back to iOS 7.1.2 do I do the download say from my computer that I have iTunes on ? And if so what are the next steps in doing the restore? Sorry to sound so dumb, but want to make sure if I do it that it's done correct. Do you know of anyone that had even more trouble after attempting the restore back to 7.1.2 ? Thanks

I Just updated to 8.02 on my iPad mini retina and iPhone 6...unfortunately I am still having the poor wifi connection issues.  So it looks like this update didn't resolve it

I reset my network settings, turned off wifi networking and reset my phone.  This seemed to work.  It only worked temporarily though.  My wifi is still at a standstill on this **** phone.  This issue better be fixed soon.

    Hi everyone,

I had a chance to do some testing last night and I want to share with you my results, hoping to narrow the issue.

I have 3 routers at home and I had no problem with any of them with iOS 7.

With iOS 8, I have issue only while I am connected to an ASUS router.

    Test:

Client: iPhone 6 plus, iOS 8.0.2, cellular data turned off, System Services / Wi-Fi Networking Off

For my test I used Speedtest (Comcast client) with the iphone 3 feet away from the router.

    Test 1:

    Router Linksys E4200, 2.4 GHz

Download: 51.12; Upload 5.12 (GOOD…. in my area this is about the speed I am expecting)

    Test 2:

    Router Asus RT-N66U, 2.4 GHz (firmware 3.0.0.4.374_979)

    Download: 17.26; Upload 5.41 (BAD!!!!)

    Test 3:

    Router Asus RT-N66U, 5 GHz (firmware 3.0.0.4.374_979)

    Download: 12.31; Upload 5.30 (BAD!!!!)

    Test 4:

    Router Asus RT-N66U, 2.4 GHz (firmware 3.0.0.4.376_1071)

    Download: 16.53; Upload 4.97 (BAD!!!!)

    Test 5:

    Router Asus RT-AC68U, 2.4 GHz (firmware 3.0.0.4.374_1663)

    Download: 13.72; Upload 4.99 (BAD!!!!)

    Test 6:

    Router Asus RT-AC68U, 5 GHz (firmware 3.0.0.4.374_1663)

    UNABLE TO JOIN

    Test 7:

Router Linksys E4200, 2.4 GHz (going back to the first router)

    Download: 57.72; Upload 5.28 (GOOD)

The issue, in my case, is happening with iOS 8 when I am connected to an ASUS router.

ALmost 500 posts, about 32000 views, Apple releases 8.02 and still does not acknowledged this problem.... Incredible.

8.0.2 wifi no better. Didn't expect it to be as change log failed to mention wifi. Apple really are the pits. they are more concerned with that garbage health app

FWIW my glitches on 5s happen on both my routers at home (one is an access point on a completely diff channel). A Netgear wndr 3700 and a Draytek both updated firmware. It had only happened in the 5s but last night iPad third generation was hitching briefly too.

8.0.2 on iPad Air worked for me (unable to connect since Tuesday).  After updating new version had to reset modem.  Then on iPad - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings then went to Wi-Fi and selected network again - all works good here.  Only issue is GroupWise Calendar app - opens and closes right away - even after installing again.  Things are looking up - at least connected to wi-fi again.

I Emailed this forum link to uk national newspaper the sun. They ran a story today covering the bendy phones and how ios 8.0.1 got pulled. They didn't mention wifi but I hope they may cover something. I don't think apple will act unless they get pressured. us normal users don't have the clout. We can send feedback and go to the stores but we just get ignored. As far as Apple is concerned ios 8 is perfect now and they will continue to remain aloof.  Worth a shot.

i Struggle to understand how Apple can mess it up so much. Wifi on our other devices and laptops  is fine. I mean Microsoft has so many more combos of hardware and software to deal with yet I have never ever had an issue. Apple only has their hardware and drivers to get right and they still bodge it up. I know many people have varying routers but that's apples only variable compared to a pc that might have many different components from different manufacturers with many different drivers! It should be so much easier for Apple but they insist on diddling and trying to re invent the wheel every year

Wondering if some of you can check for a few hours if your WIFI remains stable whilst plugged into AC?  I only know the very basics & am probably clutching at straws here ...

I am having the same issue since I took the IOS 8 update.  Disappointed that I did.  Hope they have a fix for this soon.  This helped me make up my mind not to buy the iPhone 6
