Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I'm starting to think that the problem is not iOS 8 itself but some changes on my router happend installing iOS 8 (is this possible????)

Let me explain better: I have a timecapsule 4th generation linked up to the router from my country adsl provider (the primary). I have now switched off TC and I'm now connecting straight to the primary one.

So far my iPad seems working at a faster speed and no wifi hangs at all. I'll keep you updated.  If it works the problem will be to find the correct settings mysteriously changed by ios8....

These problems have not gone away for me and 8.0.3 is not out yet according to my devices. Hopefully it will be soon.

MY list of problems are growing from wifi, to apps playing up safari crashes from time to time and resets my iPad.

You really need to isolate the issue, not always easy.

In my case I've power cycled the modem and the router. Reset iPad Network settings, restored iPad...
iPad Air worked fine accessing the Internet before iOS 8 but not after iOS8 so in my case it's not the router.

Both 2.4 and 5Ghz same issue not loading pages, only Airplane mode On/Off establishes the Internet connection again.
It's intermittent so it wouldn't be correct to say that it's not working at all>
It should simply stay connected to the Internet and load pages quickly without any user intervention...

Question: Restoring iPad Air from previous backup vs. setting up iPad Air as complete new device (lots of work), could this make a difference??

OK but that doesn't help resolve the issue...

If you had followed the thread since day one, you would know that it has all been tried. It only gives temporary relief as all iDevices with iOS 8 or 8.0.2 seem to reset the connection after a few minutes and lose the connection.  It does come back after a few more minutes, but it is unacceptable.  We are wasting our time with useless fixes.  Apple has to fix this.  Write to TC.

I hope Apple is listening.  I have the same wifi issues on both an iPad Air and iPhone 5s.  A couple of times per day I have to turn off wifi and turn it back on to get anything working.  Performance is very very slow when wifi is working.

Been following this thread from the first page.

iPad Air here, with all the WiFi problems that seem to be very common.

A Big worry for me, I went into the Apple shop in Lakeside Essex,

to be told there is "no reported WiFI problems with iOS 8xx, it must be my router".

4 IPads in the house, the other three have not been updated and work fine.

It all beggars belief, hopeless clowns from top to bottom.

Typical useless apple response. It can't be anything to do with their faultless iOS8. It's a joke. I urge everyone to go to the feedback area of their site and absolutely hammer them about this issue and link this thread in. They don't look at the forums, even though they should monitor. Their QA testing is inadequate and even when problems are reported they ignore them and go ahead and release the buggy iOS anyway.

The same problem here on my iPad 2 and my iPhone 5! (Germany). Before the update, I watched watchever (VOD) in my kitchen. The router is about 5 meter away. Now, after the update, my wifi get lost signal, even when I sit 20cm next to the router. I deleted the network settings, but nothing changes. I wish i didn't update.

EDIT: All my other devices, TV, Playstation, Xbox, Wii, Nintendo DS, Kindle ebookreader, Macbook, 2 normal PCs, are ALL working like charme. No problems. Just with my two app devices after the "great" iOS 8 update. >:(

Similar problems here on devices running iOS 8.02:

iPad Mini 2 Retina sometimes takes ages to load a Safari page no matter what website.

iPhone 5 has the same and now can't find any WiFi stations while my Mac Air sees two.
