Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Same here - I only had a slow 2Mb WiFi to start with. Since the IOS 8.0.2. upgrade the speed measured with OOKLA speedtest fluctuates between 0.3Mb - 1.4Mb. The iPad Air drops out to BTFon which is slower than dial up!! The iPhone 5S is slow but only occasionally drops out. I have reset the iPad to factory settings and restored from backup. Still very slow and drops out.

I've checked the speed using my MacBook and it shows a steady 1.9-2.0Mb. So it proves that the software has created a near to useless iPad and iPhone.

Same issue here. To fix the problem Apple is going to have to replace my iPad with a new one.

iso8 has made my iPhone 4s useless. After trying all the battery savings tricks the phone battery last for about 90minutes before needing a recharge with minimal use. How do I fix this battery darin or delete and replace ios8 with ios7?

The DNS 8.8.8.8 option seemed to fix the Wi-Fi losing activity  on my iPhone 6 Plus (UK) but it didn't resolve the Wi-Fi just dropping out fully. Even with the new DNS setting on my phone's connections ( not from the router) the Wi-Fi dropped out fully and would not find anything when searching unless I restarted the phone. This is a big issue and very annoying. Does anyone think the Wi-Fi cutting out and not being able to find networks is a hardware issue or still related to 8.0.2?

Has anyone found a temporary fix for the Wi-Fi completely cutting out?

Just to note when the Wi-Fi does work I have never had slow speeds. Its always blazing fast.

Any comments / suggestions would be appreciated.

The only reason changing DNS appears to work is that it is like resetting network settings.  It works for a while then the network connection resets and you lose the connection for a while.  It will come back after a while.  It is not worth playing with as this is a problem only Apple can solve.  8.0.2 does not help.

There is no fix, temporary or otherwise.  Write to Apple Support or TC directly to get them moving.  Not sure if they monitor these Fora.

Somebody at Apple should be reading the forums with regards to the problems hundreds of people are having with their Apple devices since upgrading to the new IOS 8.0  When are we going to hear something from Apple?  Are you working on fixing the problems or just ignoring us?  It is very frustrating.  It has been a week already and you haven't come up with a solution.  At least lets us go back to IOS 7.2  It is the least you can do to solve the big problems you have created for many of us.  Stop ignoring us and do something.

I totally agree, even if they acknowledge there is a problem and tell us they are working on it that would be good

OK, this is driving me a bit batty as well.  What I'm finding is that my wifi works fine UNTIL I try and use the YouTube app.  That is when all **** breaks loose - nothing streams from the app.  After this, I lose wifi connectivity throughout all apps.  If I do the airplane mode on/off toggle, everything seems to work OK again UNTIL I go back to the YouTube app.

Is this just me or can anyone else duplicate this behavior?

One would hope that Apple held their hands up

and mentioned a fix would be on the way at some point.

But then again, are they going to admit to the buying public that they

are selling mobile WiFi devices that don't....well.....erm..

    Work properly.

Just a case of keeping our fingers crossed and hope

something is being baked at the moment. I am sure (hoping)

it won't be long. This is all very frustrating to say the least.

I think I've first noticed when playing with YouTube App on iPad Air, nothing would work, AirPlay wouldn't play and slow overall...
I can see YouTube App having issues with iOS 8 but don't think it's the cause for all that Internet connection trouble we're seeing here...

I'm having intermittent issues simply accessing websites.

My wifi on all my iOS devices is having all kinds of problems, sometimes it works some times it doesn't.  When I Hard Rebbot the device in question the wifi will work for a short time and the hang up again.  That is happening on all of them every day multiple times a day.

The widgets in iOS 8 are glitchy, Reminders will only show up if I reboot the phone and then open the reminders app, then the widget will start working again, but as soon as I am done for the day and have finished all the reminders they won't work the next day until I reboot as stated earlier..

And last but not least, when I opened iTunes and started playing some music over AirPlay to my Denon Receivers, iTunes is having trouble connecting to the Receivers, and the moment I open one of two apps (Listed Below), AirPlay crashes and won't reconnect to the Receiver unless I hard Reboot the whole system.

    -Device list-

    Cisco linksys EA6500 wifi router

newest iMac running latest os x

    iPad 2, 4 & Air

    iPhone 5, 5s, 6

    iPod 4, 5

    & 4 Apple tv's

    Airplay compatible devices-

    Denon AVR4311-ci receiver

    Denon RCD-N7 receiver

    Airplay Compatible Apps (from iTunes)-

    Denon Remote App

Working a couple hours off a free unsecured wifi in a casino this morning, no Wi-Fi disconnects, no YouTube issues, all working just fine, how can that  be explained?

no AirPlay of course, no wifi password.... Strange.

Is this issue related to Wifi security?
