Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

This isn't a hardware issue, stop being such a drama queen!

Many people on here have the issue on ipad Air (myself included) which were all fine before the ios8 update so it's software related. Unless you're saying ios8 has made the hardware fail?!

Thought I was the only one with this wi-fi issue but obviously not. Are these things not beta checked first? After all, having no wi-fi is no small issue...

You can no longer roll back to iOS7. It requires a signed version of iOS 7, which Apple removed a week after iOS 8 was released. Usually they remove it around 3 days after a release, but they left it up longer this time. This is why many people do not upgrade until all the bugs have been worked out.

We have 2 iPad Air with retina screens. One we have opdated to iOS 8.0.2 and Wi-Fi did not work at all. In Wi-Fi connections I touch my home network. Here I could see that HTTP-PROXY was set to auto. Turn it to off and all work perfect now. I hope that it will work for you also.

So a week or so later, I can only use WiFi if Im sat right next to the AP with no walls or anything in between. If there is, despite seeing 2-3 bars signal strength the WiFi doesnt connect and it continuously asks me to re-enter the password then says cannot connect, and asks me for the password again. Joyful.

I have also just had to buy an extra data top up, which I have never had to do before, as usually everywhere I am (work, home, family etc) I connect to their WiFi. That is no longer possible.

This is the case across multiple routers including BT home hubs, plus.net Technicolours, and other professional access points that we use for work.

    Not good Apple, not good.

I'm 100% OK on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi with my iPad Air and 8.0.2 now.

    Hoping Apple will address 5GHz...

Have you guys tried switching channels or bands ? If you are on 5 GHz, try switching to 2.4 GHz and check if the connection is better. If you are in 2.4 GHz, try switching to 5 Ghz ( channel 36 etc.)

What router are you seeing the issue with ? Please add more details on the network setup and debugging steps you guys have tried so it can help everyone else.

THis is continuing to drive me crazy. Whilst my wifi doesn't drop it is much slower. At 5-10 mbiSt according to speed test app. under ios 7 it was 35. If I reboot phone it tends to regain its speed but will later drop off. Often if I go work and come home back into my wifi it picks up but is slow until I reboot. As if ios 8 gets confused moving in and out of cellular to wifi. I have AirPlay devices too which are slow to pick up such as apple tv. iOS 8 is the pits. Sadly early beta posts re 8.1 mention nothing about forthcoming wifi fixes. Apple really have bodged this and their arrogance just leaves me dumbfounded.

I Have exactly the same problem. Why dosent  Apple test these before they send them out? The reason why I downloaded it was because it was a thorn in my side....kept appearing everytime I opened my IPad and I thought it was an improvement for i0S7I would rather have it back. Is there anyway you can delete i0S8?

"Is there anyway you can delete i0S8?"

    No.

iOS 7 has been removed from the servers. All you can do now is be patient while Apple addresses the issue.

FINALLY I SOLVED THE WIFI PROBLEM AFTER INSTALLING IOS8.

As most most of you I faced big problems with wifi after installing ios8 On both my iPad Air and iphone 5 . The problem remained even after installing iOS 8.0.2 on both. My home network has the ISP router connecited to my Timecapsule 4th generation. Rebooting hundred of times both devices didn't solved the problems (both slow speed and sudden wifI hangs).

YeEsterday I solved the problem as follows:

    - I asked first my ISP to reset my adsl line

    - I reloaded my timecapsule settings backup file I have on my laptop (is an old year old backup file made when everything was working well)

    - I did NOT reinitiliazed both my iDevices as apple support suggested

All my devices are now perfectly working since more than 24hours!

i think that reloading my timecapsule settings file was the key move. Clearly iOS 8 affects the networks devices, it's weird it's something I cannot explain but not works. My suggestion to you is either to reset your routerm at factory settings and male a fresh configuration  or restore from a backup file.

    Hope this help everibody.

So when you stay at a hotel, what do you ask them to do?  Reset their connections/routers  for you?
