Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

    It's an Apple firmware issue.

I'd be surprised if it would take longer than a couple weeks before 8.1 gets pushed out also with an Apple TV software update supporting Family sharing.

I decided to ring Apple instead of waiting for them to read the forums. I was very disappointed the person said they new nothing about the problems listed here or the ones I was having.

She asked me if I just updated to ios8 or if I restored my phone first before updating. i said I just updated as I normally do. She said no no no, I really should restore my iPhone then update afterwards, "this is what I do" she went on to say. She said it because when people up date they some times get messages or phone calls during the update and it doesn't work properly. I told her I use airplane mode etc and has anyone else had problems she said I'm the only one. Later in the conversation I asked her if she had problems she said "no I don't have an iPhone" this contradicts what she said earlier she also said later "I have had a bunch of calls about this today" again contradicting what she said earlier.

Basically I don't think they acknowledge a problem

mean an while my internet keep dropping safari resets my device I can't stream to my to anymore the list goes on .....

Some one of these replies make me think that Apple are writing them themselves.

    iPad Air here. iOS 8.0.2

I have been following this thread since word go, I have tried ALL and EVERY suggestion/work around,

the result is always the same -  between five and ten minutes. and then pages stop loading/no connection etc.

Other iPads in the house on iOS 7. Xx, no such problems.

Sent in reports, spoke to support, been into Apple in BlueWater Essex UK, they all spout the same stuff about

not being aware of these issues. The interesting thing is they all deliver the same rubbish like

they have been programmed to speak from a script sheet.

WiFI has dropped twice while posting this...

I've never had no Wi-Fi connection, always lost Internet connection on 5Ghz but not on 2.4Ghz.

On all my iOS 8.02 devices. iPhone 5s, iPad Mini and Air I have no trouble whatsoever staying connected to the Internet on 2.4GHz

    Asus RT-N66U Dual band router.

What drives me crazy is an issue most likely not connected to 'iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems's' but rather YouTube iPhone/iPad App or my router settings/firmware and AirPlay? Everything is absolutely OK when watching the content on the iPhone or iPad so somehow it must be an AirPlay issue...

On AirPlay the videos won't start after you click on Skip Ad (the Ad starts playing just fine), the rotating wheel keep spinning unless video resolution is manually selected...aargh!
    Anybody?

Now It's pretty clear to me:

    - I have an iPad air and and iphone 5 working perfectly with ios7 both with my time capsule and another italian ISP Router

    - after upgrading to iOS 8 and 8.02 ipad wifi connection gof unstable slow and every few hours blocked

    - tryed to restore tc settings worked 2 days but now iPad wifi connection is bad on both of my router

COnclusion: ios8 is the guilty whatever Apple support says

Definetively that's a problem caused by Apple (Apple service please listen to your customers) they MUST soon solved.

    A very concerned Apple custom

Same issue for me. I've tried all the fixes I've been a le to read and nada. Works for about 5 minutes then no internet again. VERY frustrating. Internet works great when I switch to cellular. I hope Apple reads these...

i Was trying to follow a link on this or another post, I can't find it now. It supposedly led to an official Apple support/ complaints page, it didn't work, it just led to Apples home page here. Does anyone know where it is on there? I want to contact them. The reason I can't find the original discussion is that my ipad froze...yet again, I'm now on another browser.

Just to give you my chain of events. I'm now on my fourth iPhone 6 Plus - All brand new retail replacements (Not via genius bar). All four of them have been running iOS 8 and then 8.0.2 and unfortunately they have ALL exhibited the same wifi issues :

    1. Cannot connect or find any wireless networks - Reboot required
    2. Wi-Fi connected with full coverage but no internet or activity - Wi-fi toggle on/off required.
    3. When phone is left idle/sleep for long periods of time especially overnight wifi remains connected with full coverage but needs a on/off toggle to restart connection.
    4. No speed issues - Always maximum when connected so not facing that issue. 5. They have mainly been on my 5ghz network but similar issues do occur when tried on 2.4ghz.

Now the thing that leads me to believe is that this all down to software and only certain routers/ network setups is that I have got a work 5S that had no issues on i0S 8.0 on my my network but yesterday when I got my latest plus I updated both 5S 6+ to 8.0.2 and configured them exactly the same on my 5Ghz network. This morning they both exhibited the same wifi issues and when coming back after a 6 hours the 5S that had worked perfectly before couldn't detect wifi on my 5G network.

This shows that its a iOS 8 issue that only caused issues with some devices that are connected to a certain routers.

My brothers got the iP6 in his house that has no issues with his router.

So bottom line no need to get hardware replaced 4 times like me, we just have to wait for apple to address the issue in the next update and live with the unstable networks for a bit long which I appreciate shouldn't be the case for devices that we all pay so much for!

Other than that I love my ip6+ - By far the best phone I have ever owned!

Try to delete your youtube app (if you have). Reset your network settings then restart your device.

Cool, only I like the App so much better.

Since Video is only stuck in spinning wheel after Skip Ad when on AIrPlay in my case I'm thinking this is most probably an AirPlay issue and not related to the YouTube App but who knows...could be both...

Glad some of these fixes work in some cases. I have never downloaded the YouTube app so it isn't that, at least in my case. All afore mentioned problems persist.
