Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

DDon't get me started on the Bluetooth. That's another whole area of fun! iOS 8 is a disaster with so many bugs. Heck even syncing with a pc is now hard work and bugged! But the wifi issue along with cellular is the life blood of the phone, why did they have to mess with it. Apple ttying to re invent the wheel with their 'change for the sake of change' attitude

    Hey guys.

Stop talking about politics and apologize here.

It is for technical support. It is not a place for arguments about Apple's strategy.

Does anyone know something new about solutions for our wifi issues?

    And don't complain.

We all have a problem and we have to cope with it until solution comes.

Marian79, if you have followed this thread, you would realise that there is no solution that we can effect.  The only solution has to come from Apple.  And the only way to get that solution is to keep the pressure on Support and/or Tim Cook himself.  We have all wasted too much time trying to cope with Apple's inadequacies.  After nearly three weeks on this thread, we have a right to be frustrated.

Cellular usage is now showing 351 24 hours later when I've been on Wifi nearly the entire time.  That's 120 MB in 24 hours.   I norice Safari used 44 MB all by itself.  I haven't used Safari off of Wifi.

Most "developers" are people writing apps to run on IOS to make money.

The development environment they use is an iPhone/iPad SIMULATOR which runs in xcode.

This runs IOSx on simulated hardware. You can develop and test your code to verify that it interfaces correctly with the next release of IOS.

You have to assume that version of IOS handles the real hardware correctly.

So most of the "testing" by developers proves absolutely NOTHING about IOS correctly handling the multiple variations on the hardware out in the wild.

Notice that some iPhone 6's break, others don't. Almost certainly due to variations in the hardware from different manufacturers.

Only Apple can deal with this.

    They own this problem.

I have been battling with this problem which seems to be sporadic depending on the wireless router being used. However, the root cause of not being able to download or update apps after installing IOS 8.x.x is not due to anything with your devices. The problem is with your wifi router being set to filter 'Cookies'. If you login to your router interface and navigate to your security settings, you should have an option for web filtering where you can uncheck 'Cookies'. Once this is done and the settings are saved and/or refreshed, you will be able to download and update apps again. Hope this helps...

I Was in Apple Store today buying a gift card. I couldn't resist a remark about ios 8 wifi. I didn't have time to genius it up. But the girl serving me was so defensive. Like they are trained to defy criticism, she even said she is having problems herself but the proportion of issues is tiny overall. I just said that is garbage but told her to check out the forums and stormed off. I didn't achieve anything but like many am frustrated and wanted to vent a little

I Can assure you that my router has never had an option to block cookies and I have had problems with Apple devices via my wifi on and off for two years.  In fact it was only after updating to ios7 that I actually seemed to fix the issue.  I checked when I got my first iPad and the official reply was "buy an apple wifi router" so basically these wifi issues are deliberate.  IMHO.   But the situation has gotten considerably worse under the latest version.  For example, whenever I switch my iPad off and back on the password for the wifi is not only "forgotten" but the correct password is rejected as incorrect.

NO one is going to tell me that is down to my router.

I agree with all that you have said. my password is continually wrong(according to them) i can no longer collect or transfer data from my iCloud account or purchase items in the App Store.

Updatimg of apps is no longer possible as my connections are no longer exsistance with Wi Fi.

I know this is not just a problem with my router as I use my iPad daily in an education facility and at home.

Prior to updating yesterday my iPad was working like a dream In both locations. But now it "bombs" in both.

    1iPad, 2 different routers, same result....Blahhhhh

Now it is just a very useless doorstop for me in profession.

I was considering upgrading to an iPad Air, but alas I'm now considering other options.

This problem is so widespread and building a mountain of dissatisfied customers!!!!!!!!!!!!'m

I'm gone. This is the second update I have had to deal with Apple not testing their products. My iPad 2 on AT&T never has service (unless I restart it every time). Wifi drops out ever 5-10 min when I'm sitting in the same room as my router. My iPhone 5 always has sim issues that require a restart at least twice a day (didn't have this till I updated to ios 8). Battery life has been chopped in half and wifi drops out on iphone at least 20 times a day. I'm taking my money out of Apple stock and selling my ipad, iPad mini, iphone, mackbook pro, Mac book, and MacBook Air and going to windows. I can't beleive this is a quality company anymore. if Apple continues this path, all iproducts will be in the same trash can as blackberry. know of any good windows or droid phones?

Ac3387.  Yeah I hear you.  My wife and I were going to buy an iPhone 6 but are having second thoughts after I upgraded to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 and iPad Air.  iOS 8 killed the WiFi on both devices and made both of them very slow, very choppy/stuttering performance, and ate the batteries up in very little time.  Luckily I was able to roll back to iOS 7.1.2 before the time limit expired.  The Windows phones look interesting.  I tried one out in the store and it can actually connect on WiFi.  Go figure.

Wow you should consider yourself lucky getting 5-10 minutes before your wifi drops. I am not exaggerating when I say my iPad Air connects for 15-45 seconds before dropping. It's totally infuriating. Our 2 iPhone 6's seem to hold the connection slightly longer but not much and our iPad Mini is the same as the Air. I only wish I could have 5 - 10 minutes of connection!

ssaltwater oater one thing I have done that has helped some is reset my network connection. That's how I gave my self more time on wifi. It's sad that I have to use 3td party websites to figure out how to use my istuff. Studying up on the Galaxy. Really wanted a iPhone 6+. Not with this track record. Can we go back to the days of iPhone 4 Quality?

Apple is quickly becoming a joke.Updated my IPad air, keeps dropping my connection and says I don't have  one when clearly I do. Did not update my IPad 2 and it still works fine,no connection issues at all. When Steve Jobs died company went to **** in a handbasket.
