Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I Agree. I may return my ordered iphone6 and stick with android based on how crappy this iOS 8 has been.

I'm having the same issues. Wi Fi stays on for a period of time, but then it losses connection and the phone cant seem to find the network anymore, reseting the phone works for a short period of time, but It won't take long until it happens again. This is on a brand new iPhone 6 plus. I tried everything but it still happens. I'm hoping ios 8.1 will fix this issue, I'm loosing trust on you apple.

Ok so new update. I know this is going to make me sound crazy but I really feel this is apples way of pushing us to get new Apple products. They build up this awesome update and make us want it and they load our phones with crap So we will update or trade in our (in their eyes) our dinosaurs. I had some fun in the Verizon store looking at a s5 today while I tried to fix my iPhone. Apples help at the bar was "take it to Verizon it's their fault." keep in mind I didn't have this problem till this awesome iOS 8 update. Looking better and better going to the dark side my friends. Next post might be on a windows tablet or s5.

I have been using Apple products now for many years and have never felt the need to post on this help forum…..until now !

I live in the UK and have 3 iPads and 2 iPhones in the house, the only one not maintaining a connection to the wifi is my iPad mini and yep you’ve guessed it, it’s the only one that was upgraded to ios8.

I have read every single post on this thread and like many others on here have tried all the so called fixes, only one has worked for me.  The one and only way that my iPad Mini will stay connected to the wifi is by disabling 5GHz on my BT Home Hub router and just using 2.4GHz.  Now this is ok, at least my iPad stays connected but by just using 2.4GHz the connection on all my devices including my PC has dropped from 40mbs to just 1.5mbs.  So I now have to keep changing the router settings depending which device I want to use, which, obviously is time consuming and very frustrating.

My patience has finally ran out with Apple, it has taken to long to fix this and they just appear to be ignoring their customers on this and may other issues that ios8 has caused. Later today I will be going out to buy a Samsung Galaxy tablet to replace my iPad and within the next few weeks plan on buying android phones.  Sorry Apple you have lost my custom.

Ok since my original post yesterday I am amazed at how many of Apple customers are coming to the same realisation that Apple are crap.  I have been an advocate of Apple for many years and have always mocked those who choose and Android rout.  Myself and my wife and three children all have 4S's we have one iPad and an iMac which keeps not wanting to boot up "Apples solution just reload OSX and all will be fine and it is for few weeks ten we have to do it all again.  I wonder what will happen when my Apple Cafe subscription runs out?  I am only sorry that Apple have had so much of my hard earned cash, as their products are not exactly cheap, and for that reason you expect a better product and better aftercare.  As one person states  "trade in our (in their eyes) our dinosaurs. I had some fun in the Verizon store looking at a s5 today while I tried to fix my iPhone. Apples help at the bar was "take it to Verizon it's their fault." GREAT HELP APPLE.  It is little wonder why Apple only hold 5% of the market share of PC and tablet sales, when they rush to push out crap like iOS 8 and not take responsibility for it!!!!!!!!!  Opening Windows is like coming home..............

Ironic that I have to jump on my W 8.1 desktop to read this thread, because my iPad Air Wifi keeps timing out on Safari.

Priceless, you couldn't make it up.

This is a bigger problem than meets the eye. Many businesses now issue workers iPhones / iPads for doing business on the road and using WiFi connections to avoid data charges. This is far more serious than the map fiasco of last year (Google Maps came to the rescue) ...... I think Apple needs to pay more attention to the software side of the house. Let Jon Ives wallow in his orgasmic ecstasy of his designs, but we need functioning gadgets ....

I use a iPad and a iPhone for work. There are times when I just say "forget it" when I'm trying to do something on my iPad because it either freezes, gets stuck, drops wifi, or drops cell service. I'm in sales. This crap could be costing me money. iPad 2 with AT&T And iPhone 5 on Verizon. Funny how my wife has a iPad mini that works 100%. She hasn't updated yet.

Time goes by and no news about a fix from apple.  The only news are that Apple will launch their new Ipads this week.  Those used to be exiting news.  Not any more.  I could care less about their new products.  If you don't care about your existing customers then why bother patronizing Apple.  The only good thing out of this nightmare experience is that I saved $700 dollars.   I was ready to go out and buy the new Iphone 6.  Now, I don't want another Iphone at home anymore.  Can anybody tell me if I change to an android phone, can I transfer my calendar and contacts to the android phone?  That is all I care about the old Iphone.  The apps I don't mind.  I can always get those from android too.  The new android One Plus One phone is inexpensive at $200 and it had great reviews as well.  Not loyal to Apple anymore.  Very disappointing to say the least.  Enough is enough, time to move on.

Same issues on my iPhone 5s since iOS 8 update. Strangely there is now a double presence of my iPhone on my home network since the update too - seen in Fing (on iPhone and Nexus) and also on Genie. IP Address is DHCP allocated (reserved in Genie).

None of the suggestions have offered any improvement for me so far.

Hi, i had this issue as well.

solution was simple in the end after having all manor of tricks and a new ipad too.

in your router settings there are 2.5mh and 5mh settings, switch off the 5mh one as the ipad is the only device that get confsed and it will work fine.

nb it may not be mh im going from memory. just make sure the router is running on the one frequency.

Traveled yesterday from home in California to visit family outside D. C.

DIfferent provider, obviously, and router. Same result: started out strong and dropped off after just a few minutes.

So Apple, respectfully, it isn't my router, it's my phone.

The honorable thing to do would be to, once again, allow a temporary roll back to your last known, bug free, ios7.  The fact they did, for a while, and then pulled this option, is a slap in my face, a loyal Apple customer since the IIgs.

I totally agree. If we had the option to go back to iOS 7 I wouldn't mind so much about the iOS 8 issues and would downgrade immediately (even though it would be an upgrade in reality as we had no issues with that OS).

The fact that I can't means we have 4 broken iOS 8 devices in the house which is infuriating and very much souring our experience and views of Apple and their products/services.

What makes it worse is that there is no news or update from Apple regarding these issues. Do we even know they've acknowledged it? Maybe they think they have 60 pages worth of users who have broken routers or are technologically clueless?

They refuse to comment on their own forum, yet they have obviously been monitoring it at the very least as some of my posts have been deleted after venting my frustration.

Apple please let us upgrade back to iOS 7? Do you not realise the damage you are doing to your company?
