Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I used to love Apple till iOS8 came out. I just cannot believe what is going on with Apple. My iPad Air keeps dropping Wifi every few minutes. Netflix does not work at all. So disappointed! I am not going to buy any apple products any time soon. If I wanted a buggy system, I would have bought Microsoft.

    Apple, please fix it!

Did everyone try the actions in this list? #7 worked for me, but others had success with one of the other possible solutions:

The issue I had with iOS 8 and iPhone 6 was very slow wifi download speeds. I used my iPad 3 and my wife's 4s to baseline and got 15 Mbits/s down / 10 up on on both devices. With the iPhone 6 I saw about 3 down / 10 up. If I reset network connections or forgot my wifi connection and reconnected I got 25 down/ 10 up. However after about 15 mins I was back to 3 down. My router does not have the ability to change frequency bands, but I was able to change the default encryption from WEP to WPA2 and I'm now seeing 25 down / 10 up consistently. It took me about 2 hours to update the 10 other wifi devices on my network but well worth it to have the iPhone 6 blazing through downloads.

Hopefully this his works for some of you before iOS 8.1 is here.

Finally some hopeful news! Thanks for sharing that response from Apple.  With Apple's track record these days, hopefully this issue will be fixed without introducing something new!

My God can I get an hallelujah, finally they are admitting they have a problem. Maybe I'll hold off ordering the Galaxy s5 until the 20th?

Thank you mazeman for sharing that from apple. The first step in fixing something is admitting there's a problem - good to know they are admitting it

I am so ducking disappointed with Apple. I've had a senior worker overlooking my case for over FOUR weeks, tried all solutions then i had the software profile installed on my ipad to monitor the jumps from 5ghz to 2.4ghz ( which is clearly where the problem is). This has been with their engineering department for the last 4 weeks and I've received no frigging update whatsoever just a standard ' our engineers are trying their absolute hardest' ...LOL. I wish they would have told me they cbf to solve my issue asap and were simply going to make me wait until ios8.1 so then i could have shouted at them earlier , instead of leading me on. DUCK this ****. Absolutely taking the biscuit.

If all this waiting comes to nothing with ios8.1...im walking into an apple store with a fully loaded supersoaker and spraying their lovely equiptment.

I have a partial / workable work-around the 5Ghz issue with the iPad Air using the "Disable a Wi-Fi System Service Setting" ; not a total success by any means, but I can stream Video for hours most of the time. I will wait to see if iOS 8.1 solves the WiFi issue and it has not created new one in the process (total lack of confidence in Apple right now) .......

Has anyone else had a call from Apple about installing something onto your device?

Every time my internet is disconnected I nneed to go back to the settings > disconnect my wifi and again reconnect it.. I have to keep repeating this several times in a day.. I hope Apple fix this issue as soon as possible. I also faced the same issue on my late 13 Mac book pro, but not as frequent as iPad Air.. However once I upgrades my pro to Yosemite the problem has been rectified. i hope Apple comes out wit bug fix as soon as possible..

p.s : while trying to type this message from my iPad Air keypad gave me ahard time .. Overall it seems like apple iOS 8 upgrade has lots of problems
