Q: iOS 8 Wi-Fi problems

WI-Fi problems on iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display and iPhone 5S after upgrading to iOS 8.

Typical results from OOKLA Speedtest before upgrade: Ping 17 ms, Upload 21 Mbps, Download 4.4 Mbps

Typical results after upgrade: Ping 39 ms, Download 2.9 Mbps, Upload 0.47 Mbps

iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 get 15 Mbps download and 4.4 upload on the same network.

Resetting network settings on the iOS 8 devices did not improve the performance.

Changing band on the router from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz did give me back the speed on all devices.

However the speed occasonally drops on the iOS 8 devices, and the signal strengt can go from full til lost connection without moving the devices.

Also sometimes the Wi-Fi SweetSpots app report 0 mbps when the signal strenght is indicated as full and then suddenly go up to around 58 Mbps again.

It is almost like the device is trying to use cellular network that I do not have on the iPads before it suddenly switches back to Wi-fi nettwork again.

I am thinking about going back to my iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 that is working perfectly until the Wi-Fi issues are resolved.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

I have mentioned in a previous post that completely factory resetting my router (Netgear D6300) seemed to have done the trick for me.

This seems to have been the only permanent solution.

Now, im not sure if its just sheer luck that after restoring, and again setting up my network as i usually do and reserving IPs over DHCP, setting SSID etc.

My wife  and i are both using iphone 6+'s and both have had seamless 5Ghz connection since the restore (about a week ago)

Updated this morning to 8.1 (using iTunes & OTA) and both devices are still working fine and getting speeds of over 90Mbps down 35Mbps up. No drop outs or slowing.

Quite disappointed with apple on this one. Although our Wifi has been working fine since last week, i have just been keeping an eye on the forum to see if its helped other users; not looking so good

The above mentioned may not be the best solution, but hopefully works for some.

So it seems after updating my devices (Iphone 6 and Ipad Air) to iSO 8.1 that all seems well again with Wifi. Speeds as well as connection is sustained. I will continue to monitor the update and keep all posted in the event their is a change.

SStill glitchy for me. Maybe a bit quicker to pick up my AirPlay devices. I guess it's just about passable but nowhere as good as ios 7. My iPad third gen seems fine but the 5s is erratic. Pretty disappointed

I have the same issues. Was hoping 8.1 would fix problems, but no luck. Wifi still drops or very slow on Iphone 6. Really starting to rethink my purchase.  Every other dive connected router works fine Including Samsung S5. Updated 2013 Macbook Pro to Yosemite the wifi did not work either. Lucky I had Time Machine backup. Restored back to  Maverick and have no problems.

You are clearly a more sophisticated user than I.  I just want things to work and forget any technical process as soon as it has succeeded, or not.  So, I would have to look up how to ping from my Mac or iDevice.  Perhaps on your previous post which I remember having read.

I just used the speed test recommended by service provider which works in Safari on my Mac and read the ping speeds off Ookla on my iDevices.

It is relative performance that matters to me.  And since they are similar, and if they stay consistent, then I will be happy.

Very strange, and shameful that Apple cannot fix this for everybody.

Seriously just turn off the dual frequency settings on your routers. Yes it's crap that for some reason apple can't fix it but that's all it is, the software gets confused receiving dual signals.

This his works for me, it's super fast and I'm un subscribing from this thread now as people seem to not be able to read a fix and action it, if you don't understand ask your service provider and they will do it for you.

Good luck and just spread the fix instead of having a moan, apple don't read this.....

That'a not a really a good solutions. One should be able to have multiple frequencies without that being a problem, in fact, most of us probably still have devices that are only 2.4 Ghz capable. Are you suggesting that just to please Apple we trash those devices? It is plain and simple. Apple really dropped the ball on this and is giving a f.... About it's affected clients.

iOS 8.1 seems to have fixed my WIFI issues as well. I put both my iPad Air and iPhone 5S on 5GHz and they're both flying. No freezing, no dropping. 2.4GHz didn't freeze...but good Lord it was sloooow...so I'm relieved they finally addressed the issue -- or at least in my case.

It's done nothing to resolve my iPhone 5 issue, wifi is still broken and (again) I'm having to use 3G to post this. Apple, just let me revert to iOS 7, at least that one worked.
