Music Won't Sync From Itunes Correctly

I just bought the iPhone 6 yesterday (it's my first iPhone), and my music just doesn't want to sync correctly. I use iTunes and have about 1.6k songs. I'm plugging it in using the usb port and syncing just like I have with all my previously owned iPods. The issue with when I try to play one of my songs, a red square with a red circle around it shows up. This happens for about 70% of my songs and skips to the next available one. I then try to sync my songs again and different songs then become unavailable, while previously unavailable songs become available.

Some of these songs have been purchased through iTunes, some have not. Both seem to randomly not work. I'm wondering what the problem could be? I've never had this problem with my iPod.

iPhone 6, iOS 8

Matt, I'm having the EXACT same problem you have described — with the red square and circle around it. I have about the same number of songs as you do. Everything was fine with my iPhone 5, and everything is still fine with my iPad Mini. The problem is getting the iTunes on my iMac to sync onto the new iPhone 6. So I think the problem is not iOS 8, but the new phone itself. I also have suspicions about iTunes Match, which I have never fully understood. I have turned it off (on all my devices) and tried doing a fresh sync to the iPhone, but I still get the exact result you have described. Hope they fix this soon.

Just had a brief chat with Apple support about this issue. I sent a link to this thread and they acted if it was the first time they have heard about it. I have 128gb too. Are people with 64gb or 16gb phones experiencing the same issue? I'm wondering if its a software issue related to the larger memory size available. I too, bought the bigger capacity to accommodate all of my music.

They told me at genius bar that probably it was my external drive that was losing connection when syncing (i have my music library on an external drive due to capacity storage) but it never has caused this problem until now, and I've run several tests on my old iPhone 4s running iOS 7, a last generation ipod nano and an ipod classic, on all those the devices i don't have a single problem. Its the Iphone 6 or the iOS 8.

sorry for not remembering the exact order but here's my experience over the last 8 hours of finding the problem, diagnosing, and at least my first successful loading of music. I'll start by saying I have an iPhone 4S with ITunes(win). I connected to sync because I had bought and downloaded a few albums to add to my collection. Noticed that most if not all of my non-purchased music had been removed from my phone list and when my data usage showed at the bottom of iTunes, I had nearly 30gb of "other" folder memory. I tried PhoneClean which did remove over 1gb of excess "other" data but did not fix the problem obviously. I backed up phone many times and recovered my phone and restored from most recent post. Tried syncing and got my ringtones and books back but no music. After reading through the entire thread and trying a few things and analyzing everyone's experiences...

this is what I think I did to get it to work and what I noticed. I have my auto-sync when connected and wi-fi sync off. I have my ITunes Match and Genius turned off. I also have my Wi-Fi off, Bluetooth off, and in airplane mode off. I turned off auto-lock and screen never went off since being powered. Again, this is all the various techniques I read that got other peoples stuff to work, but What I noticed when I selected (sync only checked songs and videos) and (manually manage my music and videos) and go to select my music to sync(which I have in an iPhone playlist folder since all my music doesn't fit on my 64gb iPhone) is that when I would go back to Summary(not sure if only after syncing, after applying, or even with either, (cant remember which one) but either sync on checked or manually manage was mysteriously unchecked. I think I rechecked one of them and then hit apply while in the process of syncing and this got it to work. don't know if this is happening to anyone else. I've been up for almost 24 hours and 1/3 of it working on this stupid iPhone. I RARELY sync my phone with iTunes so this fix should be good enough for me till they fix it but maybe this will help everyone else. Not sure if it matters if it's a playlist or entire library or what. Don't know if adding videos effects it at all. just know that I did this, the mrs got ****** I was on the comp while she was getting ready for school and not spending time with her, I got up from the computer and was in there for roughly 20-30 minutes and when I came back I was at 1400/4701. Maybe you just have to set it up and let it do it's thing. Even if it shows it's not syncing anymore, maybe it's prioritizing or analyzing what it's going to have to do. Maybe I just got lucky. hope this helps someone. Again, sorry for the scattered thoughts and horrible grammar/spelling. I am delirious.

I bought the 64gb iPhone 6 and am having issues too. I have been to the Genius Bar 3 times. The last time I was there the guy also acted like he never seen the problem but he did spend 3 hours on me unlike the previous visits which were maybe 5 minutes each. The third time I brought my PC. The guy created a new ITunes folder and copied everything over. He wasn't able to copy over any playlists or song counts which isn't a big deal to me. I was at the Genius Bar on Monday night. I have synced everyday since without any issues.

upon finishing, all my music is there,or appears to be. I scrolled through and picked artists/songs at random and everything played. The strange thing is that before I disconnected my IPhone, it shows that there was no music on my memory on my IPhone at the bottom of the screen. Hindsight, but I also did not look to see if either manually manage music or sync only selected music was unchecked. I did notice before I tried everything that if Manually manage music was not checked, then you did not see the audio part of the memory at the bottom of iTunes in the memory analysis. They really screwed up this time but maybe this will lead someone to a more permanent fix. I'm off to bed. good luck!

The thing is, Apple, we don't want a temporary fix. We want itunes and iPhone syncing the way it has to do it. I have managed to sync my whole library several times with all the temporary fixes sugested in previous posts, but just when I think everything is working and try to update (yesterday I wanted to add a new album and an audiobook) it erases 70% of my music. And here we go, start again with the same issues (music apearing on iPhone but with red circle and not playing, iTunes music bar showing that I have all my music but with a free space number that it just simple doesn't add up and cannot be possible, etc). This is a very impotany case, more that the bendgate or the wifi losing connection (which it does, but that's a diferent tread) we are talking about one of the souls of the iPhone that was born with the iPod and the resurrection of Apple thanks to the music and this device. Music is as an important issue for us than making calls. So I don't want to fix it and then not have to sync again because I'm going to lose everything again, I want to sync every time and get my music and videos whenever I want, that's why I have the phone, and after reading you all and dedicating so much time doing tests with this iPhone 6 and my 3 other Apple devices that are working properly I know that the problem lies in something software or hardware related that is out of our hands. Apple, help us, we deserve it.

I am having the same problem that all of you are having. I tried trouble-shooting it for a few hours then came to this forum. It seems like the only thing that can truly fix it is Apple fixing the software problem(s). iOS 8.1 is rumored to come out on Oct. 20 so I will wait until then to try again because I heard it is not good for your phone to repeatedly write large quantities to the drive. If anyone finds a definite solution that fixes the entire problem and permits subsequent syncing, please post it here in bold or something so it stands out. But make sure that random songs don't disappear upon subsequent syncs (I thought I fixed it at once point just to find that occurred later on). Thank you.

Yet another one having the same problem. Looking at which songs synched and which didn't, it seems that on my 128GB 6, the only songs that will synch are the ones I purchased through iTunes. The songs/albums I imported into iTunes are the ones that won't synch. I have not looked throughout the entire library, but on a cursory skim, that seems to be what is happening to me. Anyone else notice this specifically?

Yup, I make a lot of my own music using Garageband and then import it into iTunes so I can chill to my own stuff, and this was the first casualty of the mysterious deleting music phenomena. Then I discovered that a lot of the other stuff also vanished. One common thing they all had is that none of the deleted tracks had "album artist" info attributed to them, which got me thinking that this was the solution.

I added "album artist" info to several songs, synced...nope, sadly it wasn't the solution.

It is indeed perplexing and infuriating (I gotta catch a flight in a few hours and I'm restoring my iBrick 6 from an older backup cos it had been saving the songs on the Brick itself multiple times until I RAN OUT OF SPACE on the iBrick) and I have noticed that despite the repeated calls for solutions, the only ones doing any thing about it seem to be us, the customers. Unless there's a magic fix about to happen.

One thing to note tho: I initially thought it was a bug with ios8, but my ipad mini works fine with every sync. Indeed, the ipad mini is a solid and robust bit of kit, whereas the iPhone 6 seems to be far less robust. Confused, even.

I won't be holding my breath for any solutions soon (i tried them all already, only ever a temp solution) but I do feel compelled to add my voice to the chorus instead of just shouting and swearing at what is undeniably a gorgeous and potentially wonderful little device.

I have had the same problem as this thred. I did a complete factory settings reinstall from backup, and it seemed to work. Then when I synched incremental music to add as a test, the same problem occurred again. I then unchecked all music completely so that all of the music was removed after the synch completed. I then checked music playlists to synch again as if it was loading for the first time, and it has worked. It is a pain to do, but this seems to work for me.

I have a 128GB iPhone 6.

OK, so I just sync 1200/8000 songs normally and I have tried everything. (6plus 128GB). I have had the phone since release date and have had multiple days of trying everyone's fixes. Today I read where duplicate songs from itunes purchases were the problem. I deleted all the duplicates and still could only get it to download my purchased songs. Then I read the last post, I didnt restore it but I did sync it again but I synced it with "Sync Music" box unselected. Then I checked the box and Sync'd it again and it worked. I have no idea why this worked but it did.

BTW I did this in airplane mode with wifi and bluetooth turned off
