Can I transfer my licensed DVD's to the icloud ?

Hello , I am new to this forum -

My question is -

Can i transfer my used DVD collection i own to the icloud or Apple or any other storage company ?

I want to watch them when i want without having to insert a DVD into a DVD player.

We have a Walmart VuDu / Ultraviolet account that we have approximately 165 movies we have transferred some titles into.

We can watch them whenever we want on most any device - i really like it a lot.

Problem is - Walmart mostly only allows CERTAIN TITLES - to be transferred - in their cloud service -

Not any title that you want. So , I am stuck with titles that they will not allow. Even though I own a licensed copy.

I am not interested in bootlegging anything - just want to transfer these LICENSED MOVIES to watch later.

I own these licensed DVD's that are stacked up in our house - I want to transfer them to a cloud service.

Then I will sell the used DVD's after I transfer them - and get this clutter out of our house.

I transferred a few Elvis movie titles into the VuDu account - and Vudu would except some titles not all.

All titles were from the same company - go figure ?

Anyway , can anyone give me the real cost effective solution to transferring any movie i want to the cloud to watch later ?

Thanks Roger for the fast reply -

I am still a little confused -

If Walmart has a VuDu / Ultraviolet service that allows me to transfer MY DVD's to their service -

Remember some titles they allow - some titles are not allowed - then how can your response be 100% correct ?

This is not a abusive reply by any means - I really want the full truth on this matter - I believe others are doing this ?

Walmart has surely allowed me to buy a used DVD from anywhere - as long as it is a Licensed Product -

and every week I just put the used DVD into my laptop and it reads the title and says congratulations you have added this movie to your account.

So , I have 165 titles in the Vudu /ultraviolet Walmart Cloud account. They charge $2 for each DVD added to my account.

If I load 10 movies or more - they cut the price to only $1 per DVD movie title added to our account.

I do not have to buy the movie from them.

My real concern is - somewhere - some company must have storage for us to load and unload to watch anytime - our movies.

Since this is a new medium only a couple years old - the cloud - are we both (respectfully) just a little behind the times ? You and Me ?

Or was the reply a generic response - because you assumed that it was for illegal purposes ? I can understand that.

I just think that this service is somewhere out there - without doing anything illegal - to upload anything - to see later.

Are folks just downloading the movies on their hard drive then watching later ?

This means that your hard drive will not be big enough to handle all of a large DVD collection - correct ?

It would have to be a massive hard drive ! I do not want to do it that way - I like the cloud idea !

What do you think ?

Thanks again Roger !

I'm not familiar with the Walmart service; you would have to make use of it within whatever its terms of service.

If you have a DVD you have purchased then you cannot technically or legally make a copy of it to keep on your laptop or upload to your cloud storage. This restriction is placed by the people who make the DVDs to prevent piracy - such as making copies to sell, or indeed making a copy to keep and selling the original; both activities constitute copyright theft.

Online services such as iTunes have a licenced arrangement with the copyright owners to provide copies under the specified terms of service that you can download. You cannot copy these to another DVD or other online storage.

I assume the Walmart service is licenced for specified films in a similar way and is giving you a discount for having purchased a physical copy.

So the answer to the specific question you originally asked is, you can't do this.

Nope. You can't transfer your music collection from CD either.

Make Hollywood happy, repurchase everything for each device.
