Then look for the function to send an web SMS, it will take you to a page to enter a phone number and a text message.

Two problems with this solution:

1. If I use my own number, I assume I will receive an iMessage instead of an SMS text.

2. Using my carrier's web site will test whether I can receive a text message. The problem is that I can't send SMS text messages, but I receive them just fine.
