Q: iPhone 6 Bluetooth + 2014 Mazda 3 Problems

Received an iPhone 6 128 GB on launch day and have paired it to my 2014 Mazda 3.

The problems:

  • The car believes there to be a "Call on Handset" whenever its connected (there is not)
  • The contacts take a long time to import
  • When attempting to make an outbound call I can use the interface in the car however the moment the call connects it disconnects from Bluetooth and the audio goes via the handset.
  • Inbound calls ring through the car, however cannot be answered by the interface in the car and when answered on the phone the audio goes via the handset.

These problems were not experienced on an iPhone 5S with iOS 8.

In attempting to solve the problem I have:

  • Deleted the bluetooth pairing on the phone and vehicle.
  • Conducted a full reset of the Mazda infotainment system, which is running V31 (latest) firmware.
  • Attempted to reestablish the pairing, the problem persists.

I have not been able to test the phone in another car / bluetooth set up to see if the problem is with the phone, or the car.

I'm keen to know if anyone has any similar issues or troubleshooting / solutions for me!

Thanks!

    Hey Ricardo.

Could you tell me how does it work for you right now?

    1) Is it always take ~1 min to start playing music from iphone by bluetooth when you start engine?

    2) How long does it take to switch from one song to another? I see it's almost 4-5 sec.

Hi, I have an iPhone 6+ running IOS 8.1 and a 2012 Mazda 6.  Have been experiencing the problems listed here with Bluetooth & phone switching between car speakers and phone, dropping out, etc. and generally being almost unusable.

I'm pleased to say that I've just upgraded to IOS 8.2 and initial tests seem favourable.  OK, I was on my drive, calling my cordless phone which was in the car with me (although the base station is in the house).  But the car speaker kicked in at the right time, it didn't pretend to drop out and was very clear.  Hopefully the Apple Watch Bluetooth fixes have had an impact.

    Fingers crossed.

    Paul

I've been having the same issue for months due to the iOS upgrade, I forgot starting from which version.  It's been very painful for me to switch back and forth the bluetooth device manually when I made calls.  Make the long story short, my issue is fixed after the following steps.

    1. Back up everything you have from your iPhone 5 to iTune

    2. Reset everything back to the manufacturer setting

    3. Upgrade iOS to the latest 8.2

    4. Restore iPhone 5 from back up

    5. Re-pairing between the car and iPhone 5

Note: I have done these steps before (without upgrading iOS to 8.2), but still not working.  I am not so sure if it's due to iOS 8.2 upgrade fixes this issue.

I'd suggest you to upgrade it to iOS 8.2 first, then try it again.  If still not working, try to follow my steps.

    Good Luck !!

Update to my previous post - the 8.2 fix hasn't made any difference, after all.  I will try Uglylittleduck's approach & see if I get joy from that.

Final update: I followed Uglylittleduck's approach and it works - my phone is usable in the car again!  Thank you, Uglylittleduck!

8.3 is here, i updated to it and still when attempting to make an outbound call or when receiving a call, I can use the interface in the car however the moment the call connects, it disconnects from Bluetooth and the audio goes via the handset.

I don't think I needed iOS 8.3 to fix the problem; and it did not. I simply needed to do the following and in hindsight i probably could have fixed the issue back when iOS 8.2 came out.

first thing i did. after updating to 8.3 is:

    1. Unpaired my phone from my car (2015 Mazda3 5 door Touring). from the iPhone 6. I went into Settings/Bluetooth/Mazda and Forget This Device.

    2. Mazda connect: Settings/Bluetooth/ Unpair iPhone.

    3. iPhone 6: Reset All Settings (yes you will loose your background picture and have to retype in WiFi passwords) but this is worth it to fix the problem.

    4. Mazda Connect: Settings/System Tab/Restore All Factory Settings.

5 After the reset the Mazda Connect said on the screen, "You don't have a phone paired would you like to connect one now." I kept the knob on yes until my iPhone 6 finished resetting.

    6. iPhone 6: Settings/Bluetooth (wait for Mazda to show up)

7 Mazda Connect: Hit YES on the knob to connect phone. Mazda popped up on my phone. I then successfully paired it to my car again. and wallah it worked.

Then tested a call. Called my boy on my iPhone 6 and the Mazda Connect picked up immediately, it started ringing through the speakers. When he answered, he was talking through my speakers and it did not drop back to the handset. I asked him to hang up and call me. My iPhone 6 starting ringing, so did the Mazda connect. I hit ANSWER on the screen with my knob and again, it did not drop back via the handset. It stayed on the Mazda Connect, working as intended.

I should have done this when 8.2 came out, but i never wanted to reset iPhone settings, in fear of having to re-enter everything.

    Now I'm glad i did.

I cannot get any sms notifications on Bluetooth

mazda say that there is nothing that they can do.  it is an apple problem and we have to wait for apple to fix it.

when is apple going to fix it?
