Oct 29, 2014 5:38 PM in response to modular747by Gruber Kristóf,Ok, please don't troll this topic.
I have made a video about the bug:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_rpnaFUQTU
This is a timelapse, edited in iMovie to be more clear. The device is an iPad 2 with iOS 8.1. You can see, that I do the following:
1. back up the device, because I need my data back AFTER the video
2. reset the device to factory state
3. don't log in, set up as a new device
4. open App Store, search for Twitter and download it (with my account)
5. open Twitter, log in
6. go to Settings, the option is here (for now)
7. go to Twitter
8. go back to Settings: the option is gone!
9. get a reply on Twitter: the icon badge can be seen
10. go back to Settings again: the option is gone, you cannot turn it off anymore.

Oct 29, 2014 5:48 PM in response to Gruber Kristófby modular747,I can't duplicate this on my iPad 2, iPhone 5s, or iPhone 6 Plus. There is possibly a bug in the twit app running on iOS 8 (remember this thread started before 8.1) and there are posts that it went away after 8.1. Likewise, this doesn't happen with any other app.

Nov 6, 2014 2:57 AM in response to CatherineWalksby imahe,I had this problem in my iPhone5s for a while now.
Today I managed to fix it (at least until now, we will see xD)
What I've done:
1) uninstalled Twitter app
2) rebooted iPhone
3) set the date (at least) one day into the future
4) rebooted iPhone
5) set the date/time back to automatic
6) rebooted iPhone
7) installed Twitter app, started it, allowed push notifications
8) I'm now able to disable the badge in settings
Maybe you can skip the first reboot (step 2), idk.
