As we discussed before many times now, it will disappear again soon.

Same problem here. For a while I could get the badge to disappear by opening the app. Now that doesn't work and the app is stuck showing me 8 messages. I've deleted the app a few times and re-installed, as well as done soft reboots. No help. My phone has never been jailbroken.

I too am having this issue. I have a badge with 4 notifications that I can neither disable or clear. I've never jailbroken, I have all of the updates.

Well I just updated to iOS 8.1.1, and the problem remains on my never jail-broken iPhone 5s. I deleted Twitter, did hard reset of phone and re-downloaded the app. Still no option to turn off badges. :-(

I'll see if the update does any good on my iPad this evening, but I am not hopeful.

Not surprising since it has nothing to do with the iOS in the first place.

You are wrong on this. Since displaying the application icon badge or preventing remote and local notification systems to display one is the responsibility of the OS, this is totally an iOS bug.

I even have a radar ticket for this, where they admired the existence of this bug.

Nope. The badge display and settings for it depend on the app properly coded for those API's and lack of corrupted data/settings/firmware. Since this issue happens only with the Twitter app, and a minute fraction of Twitter users at that, it clearly is app or phone issue related

FYI,  Apple doesn't respond to bug reports, let alone "admire" them.

In iOS 8.1.1, the bug is still live.

There is no badge option in notification settings of Twitter. However, iOS continues to show the badges.

Yet the the setting to disable badges appears for virtually all others using the twit app and everyone with all other apps. The problem is with the app interacting with your phone.

I too am having this problem, and none of the suggestions work. I have gone through this whole thread and done what was suggested, and my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 are not jailbroken. Happens on both for me.

I just turned off all Notifications for now - I believe it's a Twitter problem.

Same problem, solutions not effective for iOS 8.1.1 on iPhone 6.  The bug is frustrating; notifications disabled for now but hoping one day it will be fixed.

    1. The fact that "virtually all others" have the badge toggle does not change the fact that some people don't have it. I don't know what your point is here other than to be dismissive of the issue, like you've been throughout this thread.
    2. "The problem is with the app interacting with your phone" is a meaningless statement unless you can explain how it's an app/phone problem. Clearly we don't know what the problem is, since no one (including you) has come up with a permanent fix that actually works for everyone.
    3. You keep telling people to refer back to your troubleshooting steps, and to read the entire thread, but if you'd read the entire thread, you'd see that your solution does not work and that the bug is present on non-jailbroken phones. It's not at all unreasonable for people to be unwilling to factory-reset their phones when they can read the thread and see that others have done that to no avail.
    4. It's super rude to be dismissive of everyone still having this problem because you offered a non-solution and for some reason you think everyone should be satisfied with that. The whole point of these forums is to actually discuss app issues and listen to what other people are saying and try to figure out the solution, but you're ignoring anyone who contradicts what you've already decided is the (non) answer.

For what it's worth, I have a non-jailbroken 5s running iOS 8.1.1 and Twitter 6.18, and I'm missing the badge toggle, too. I didn't notice it until after I added a new account to the app, but I can't verify it wasn't there before—the new account gets more notifications, and I didn't feel the need to turn off the badges till now. In my case, I can make the badge icon go away by checking the app, usually; though the number on the badge seems not to correlate to the number of notifications I have, and sometimes after checking, the number actually goes up. Sometimes I have a badge, check the app, and none of my accounts have notifications. I can't tell if switching between accounts has any effect on what the badges do.

I know this thread's a few days old, but I'm hoping someone experienced a Thanksgiving miracle and stumbled upon a permanent fix.
