Yep, this is definitely a bug introduced in iOS8. I first saw it today on a client's iPad and Apple TV. He had been using mirroring on iOS7 for some time, no problem. He upgraded to iOS8 and the "Mirroring" switch no longer appeared in the Airplay Window. I came home and was able to replicate the problem on my own Apple TV.

In both cases the configuration was iPad iOS 8.0.2. Apple TV MD199E/A 7.0(6897.5).

Whoever wrote the code suppressed the "Mirroring" button, it is simply not there to select (I would guess it is a byproduct of doing the new peer-to-peer stuff, they just forget to test it working in the old way). You can still use the Apple TV as a speaker (because you do not need the Mirroring button for that), also in the Video app you can send video to the Apple TV, its only the mirroring that no longer works. If this forum supported it I would post screen shots, its a very clear problem.

Can someone from Apple please acknowledge that they accept this as a bug report?

It is there, but the Airplay menu does not pop high enough to see it. If you tap/hold on the name of the ATV and pull it upwards (away from you), you'll see the mirroring switch. Please confirm you've found it.

Yes, it does not appear, but it is there, you just have to scroll down a little in the popup window to reveal it.

It's not optimal, it shouldn't be that way, and I'm sure Apple will put out an update in the future to fix it.

Once the bigger fires get put out, they will get around to issues like this; that aren't preventing people from making and receiving calls.

Be patient, they'll get to it.

We just realize that there is the mirroring switch is hidden under the ipad and apple tv choices. YOU HAVE TO SCROLL UP TO SEE THE MIRRORING TOGGLE! Apple compressed this window a bit just enough to squeeze out the mirror toggle and so you don't realize you have a choice to scroll up or down.

SO IN ORDER TO GET TO THE MIRRORING TOGGLE SCROLL UP when you use ipad and apple tv choices. We got to those choices by originally swiping upwards when on the homescreen and the shortcut control panel pops up. then select airplay icon in the middle on the bottom. then you will see the ipad and apple tv choices then scroll those choices up for mirroring toggle. 🙂 sorry explanation is so jumbled!

I'm having the same issue but with an iPad air. The mirroring button simply doesn't appear. It appears on my iPhone 6 and on my gf's iPad mini. Ive restarted the Apple TV and ipad multiple times. No idea why but the iPad air just won't allow me to enable mirroring. It isn't a matter of scrolling. I've tried scrolling as far as I can in both directions. It puts a check mark beside the Apple TV and nothing at all happens.

I'm not sure what you mean. There are two forms of AirPlay. AirPlay and AirPlay mirroring. AirPlay lets you stream video or audio from an app to the apple TV. Mirroring sends your whole screen constantly. AirPlay works fine. Youtube will display it's video on the apple TV. However, I can't turn on mirroring since there's no button to do so. See attached screen shot.
