Q: iPad mini (non-retina) iOS8 upgrade failed, no way to recover

I went to upgrade my ipad mini to ios8 and it failed. Now it is stuck in recovery mode, with a 'install lightning to itunes' icon. I do this, and I tunes says I need to restore it. I changed laptops recently, and don't have a backup image.

So it is now a brick. No way to get it back, no way to move forward. There is no 'restore to factory settings' that I can find, which would be fine. I know the passcode.

Thanks apple, for bricking the device I read books on.

Do you have an apple store nearby? You can make an appointment and take it in and see if they can help you restore it.

no, apple store is not an option. hope they come out with a fix. from all the items here and online this is a widespread problem with iOS8.

Why can't you restore it? I understand that you have no backup. Your data is gone. But when you plug it into a computer running iTunes, it should detect the device in recovery mode and offer to restore iOS.

I Am stuck "Inbetween" I tried to delete some apps to make room for update after it failed and now have NO ITunes on my iPad and can't erase anything.
i Hold apps down, they begin to shake but no Cross to delete.

I not offered such an option. A file window opens only, and there is no option to restore iOS. That would be great if there was.

My ipad is still dead. No one has figured out how to solve this problem? Any other ideas?
