iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.

Hi everyone,

Since updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, the Calendar app now shows all my newly added events with GMT times, and not the local time (as I am not in GMT, I am +9 hours). All my previous and existing entries are displaying normally. I have not changed any settings at all. However, if I open one of the new events and enter the events details screen, the local times are clearly displayed along with a GMT equivalent time underneath it.

I have tried changing settings but nothing shows my events in local time as it did before the upgrade to iOS 8. Any ideas? Is this a bug? Am I missing a new setting? Many thanks in advance for your help or advice.

Cheers,

James.

sorry no solution here, just jumping in to say I'm having the same issue on the 6. I hope there is a solution as this is pretty confusing.

I was wrong on the post to Angelinos. I tried this particular way and then the on/off all day switch and time change as otherwise suggested and found the on/off switch change to be the actual easiest temporary fix. I wrote the first post a little too soon. Like I said, after trying both methods for a period of time, it is now apparent- to me at least- that the on/off all day switch is the simplest work around and you will get used to it rather quickly.

Apple apparently is aware of the issue and working it. But with no haste or sense of urgency. A lot of folks are now diverting to iCloud which does not have this issue. So, all non-Apple services will have this GMT issue untill a fix is found and programmed. Once the fix is available, you will just need to disable your calendar function under settings and synchronize your device once. After that, re-enable your calendar function of the non-Apple service and synch again. All will then be fixed. Now let's hope Apple fixes this fast. I have already had several appointments messed up due to this issue................ :-(

This has maybe already been mentioned in this thread but a quicker alternative to selecting All Day and then clearing this and adjusting the time again is to select Repeat -> Every Day. Then wait a few moments for the event to synced with your Google calendar before doing Edit -> Repeat -> Never.

But this seems to provoke another bug in the iOS Calendar app; very often the app hangs when I click Add to save the entry then the app closing after a while.

Another point to note is that when creating a repeating event it saves the local time zone in the event. This may be the reason why it doesn't 'flip over' to GMT when changing the event to a single event.

I finally figured out how to fix this and had to come back and post the fix! 🙂

Go into your Gmail calendar via the web. Open the meeting, select event details to open the details up. On the expanded meeting screen, click on the meeting time at the top left. You will see that it expands out the start and end, and you will see an option to the right for "Time Zone". Click on that; it should default to the time zone in your Settings (which I presume will be correct) and select Done. Then choose Save.

Once you iPhone refreshes, the GMT other time disappears. Voila! So glad I figured out the fix.

Not to burst your bubble, appreciate the attempt. But there never was a problem entering an event from the gmail website itself. Your fix does change the GMT issue if you go to every event you created from your IPhone and then go back to the gmail website and use your fix on each event. It still does nothing, that I see, to fix the issue of the GMT being on the events created ON the iPhone. Thanks but either we still have a bunch of extra steps to do in order to create a fix or I'm not following your steps correctly for a one time fix. The issue is figuring out how to enter an event from your iPhone and having no GMT at all.

Hi everyone,

I have read through almost every thread in this post. I just want to say that the same issue is happening to me. Problem only occurs with Gmail. Absolutely no problem with Hotmail accounts regardless whether timezone override is "on".

The problem manifested on my brand new iphone 6 plus and ipad air 2 only 1 week ago on iOS 8.1.2. I will also do my part to submit/report this issue to apple.

Going mad over this bug.. but I with everyone all the best. Hope it will be resolved soon.

Ok,

I have been using apple products, just name it and I have used them, for quite a LONG time and I really have to confess that after Steve Jobs, apple is just a big company and nothing else. The iphone is TOO buggy, the new OS Yosemite or whatever they want to call it is just a junk of bugs and uses ram like crazy.

I personally want to say good bye to this BIG company and go for something more reliable!

It is sad but it is the truth!

apple is over!

PS.

I have iphone 6 plus and it is a disaster!

I wish I could return it and get another phone from some other company!

I am facing this GMT time problem as well on my wife's iPhone 6 running ios 8.1.1.

When I create an event, it keeps showing up like this.

So, to get rid of this annoying GMT time being displayed, Edit the event you just created.

And touch the start time to change it. It will expand to let you change the date/time and below it you will see Time Zone.

Touch the Time Zone field and then type in your time zone.

Don't forget to fix the time to the correct time after you've corrected the Time Zone.

And voila! Your event should look normal again without the annoying GMT time.

I hope this works for all of you. Have a great day!

Ditto. This bug is really annoying. It's been plaguing me for months and finally I've checked online for a fix and landed on this tread. Glad to know I'm not going crazy alone. I've tried using alternative calendar apps as a result but not sure which to settle yet. Has anyone switched to a different calendar app? What do you guys prefer? Thanks.

Apple PLEASE fix this.
