iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.

Hi everyone,

Since updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, the Calendar app now shows all my newly added events with GMT times, and not the local time (as I am not in GMT, I am +9 hours). All my previous and existing entries are displaying normally. I have not changed any settings at all. However, if I open one of the new events and enter the events details screen, the local times are clearly displayed along with a GMT equivalent time underneath it.

I have tried changing settings but nothing shows my events in local time as it did before the upgrade to iOS 8. Any ideas? Is this a bug? Am I missing a new setting? Many thanks in advance for your help or advice.

Cheers,

James.

sorry no solution here, just jumping in to say I'm having the same issue on the 6. I hope there is a solution as this is pretty confusing.

After hours of trying to fix the GMT Time Zone Problem I contacted Apple. They gave me this easy fix since they are unable to fix IOS 8 to correct the time zone problem.

1. Get your passport updated

2. Move to one of the following countries below that uses GMT Time Zone. The Apple Rep did mention that the African Countries are the easiest to get a working visa for. Until Apple gets their finger's out of their *** and fix the major f*$# up, this is your best option on getting your calendar to work.

For what it's worth, this appears to me to be a problem with the iPhone calendar app. My wife has a Google Apps for Work account, and I connected her iPhone 5 running iOS 8 to this account. Appointments created anywhere show up on her Apple Calendar app with the additional GMT text.

HOWEVER: If I use another calendar app (Mynd, Week Cal both work for me) the appointments show up just fine. So until Apple fixes the bug (don't hold your breath), try another calendar app.

All this is even stranger when you make some adjustments....checkout this img. I set the time range from Start: 9:00pm End: 9:45pm....45mins in total.

The GMT time shows from 10:00am to 11:15pm GMT....1 hour and 15 mins!!!

This will be something to do with Daylight saving between timezones.

I read on a google page that the whole issue with timezones is very complicated....clearly, without Steve Jobs at the wheel, it's all too complicated for the laid back and careless workers that seem to be getting away with providing a substandard product and still enjoying a full pay check! SJ would have fired them by now, probably by text, just for fun!....I digress!

I've tried all aspects to resolve this matter by the doing the following:

From Google Calendar:

Remove Event Time Zone with the option >> (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (do not convert to equivalent local time)

In iCloud and Mail, Contacts, and Calendars settings:

(checked off) Enabled Time Zone Support in preference (cog lower left of the icloud.com calendar)

Under Settings: Time Zone (set to my local EST)

iOS 8.x.x: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars:

Time Zone Override (on)

Either way; with the above off or on; it doesn't change any aspect when editing the event time in iOS calendar. You're not able to edit the "local" event time. When editing the event time; you're ONLY modifying time zone event time. ***!!!

I believe is stemming from and only inherent in iOS. Google Calendar or iCloud or iCal is not the issue.

Well, if you can't or don't want to access Google Calendar from your device, you can remove the GMT in your iOS calendar by doing the following:

Create the appointment.

After GMT shows up, edit the appointment

Turn on and then turn off All-Day.

Correct the start and stop time (it will now be the GMT time but the time zone will be correct) to what you want

After doing this, the GMT will be gone from that appointment.

Once you get used to doing this for new appointments, it's really pretty easy although still a pain to have to do.

I found a way to fix my current events that show the GMT time on my iPhone. I can also replicate the issue and fix it.

Basically if I create any appointments on my iphone they will have the GMT time. If I create the appointments through Google calendar like many have suggested it will be fine, so it is definitely a bug in iOS 8 which has already been determined. So, how do I fix the time?

1) In google calendar edit the event

2) Click on Time Zone next to the date and time of the event (blue Time Zone link) and set your time zone.

3) Save the event

4) Refresh calendars on your iphone

GMT should be gone!

Again, this is for those who want to fix their current events. If you create any new events on the iphone you will have the same problem. This is something Apple has to fix.

Hope this helps!!!

One problem with the "All-day on/off" workaround is that appointments late in the day (for US users) become tomorrow GMT time. For example, anything after 7pm eastern, or 4pm pacific, are tomorrow in GMT time. So in those cases, when you turn on All-day the appointment date is set to tomorrow. If, after turning All-day back to off, you merely adjust the start time back to match your local time, without also moving the date back one day, your appointment will be on the wrong day!

This has already happened to me twice.
