Create an event with the New York time and New York City as the time zone. When the calendar has a different time zone (based on the iOS time zone or Time Zone Override if that is on) your NYC event will appear at the adjusted time for that time zone (e.g. 3 hours earlier in San Francisco). The original time and time zone of the event will be displayed in parenthesis when it is different from the time zone of the calendar. It's a nice feature now that it has been fixed and works properly in iOS 8.2. Try it by creating an event and manually adjusting the iOS time zone.

So please tell tell me if this is correct -

I want to create a New York calendar event while I'm in Texas.

*I'm in Texas (which is one hour behind New York)

*I have Time Zone Over Ride Off.

*My iPhone is set to Texas time zone, (where I am).

I create the event, change the default time zone which is set to Texas to New York.

TThe event will have both time zones displayed.

Events are always displayed in the calendar's current time zone, but the time zone itself is only visible in Settings. IF the event was created with a different time zone, then that time and time zone are displayed in parentheses. The day view looks a little different than the detail view. This is harder to explain than it is to see. Just try it.

Thanks Bebopper. That's what I've been doing but like I said with the "Time Zone" off. What would happen if I turned it on?

When Time Zone Override is off, Calendar automatically uses the time zone in the Date & Time setting (under General). Time Zone Override allows you to select a different time zone for the Calendar, say if you're in New York, but want to view your calendar as if you're in San Francisco.

Didn't work.

I'm running iOS 8.2

I deleted all calendars, and verified their data was no longer in the calendar.

I then turned them back on. All events still listed as GMT.

Try this one extra step and see if it makes any difference. From within the calendar app click on "Calendars" located at the bottom. Remove the check mark next to each calendar. Then click on "Done". There should now be no events in your calendar. Again from within the calendar app click on "Calendars" located at the bottom. Select each calendar to add it back in. The check mark should now appear next to each calendar. Then click on "Done". Is the GMT time still showing next to your events?

Events that were scheduled while the GMT bug was in effect can be ‘fixed’ by editing them and changing them back to the desired time zone and adjusting the time accordingly. As far as I can tell, this must be done for each event individually. (By the way, this fix works before or after updating to iOS 8.2.)

No. You do not need to individually edit each event. You need to completely remove the aftected calendar from your device...deleting ALL the borked events in the process. The re-add the calendar. When it pulls down the events from your server they will be at the correct times. The GMT bug worked on the RECEIVING device. Since it is now no longer present, it won't screw up the events when your device pulls them down again. I did this successfully on two different iOD devices.

Sorry, I was not clear. I agree - first step is to remove and re-add the calendar service. This should remove the GMT time stamps in iOS Calendar. However, if this doesn’t work, events CAN be fixed by editing the time zone in each affected event.

This has finally been fixed in the 8.2 update. I updated today and all calendar items are now working properly

I just updated to iOS 8.2 and the issue has been resolved. I didn't have to do anything else (change setting, edit existing calendar events), only complete the update.

Not only has 8.2 not solved the issue, it seems to have completely severed my phones connection to google servers- nothing syncs UP to the cloud but can download. Can't belive I'm about to have to spend money on a third party CALENDAR app! Bug report has been submitted but im over this nonsense
