Jan 6, 2015 7:09 AM in response to keyholeby JG in SB,@keyhole: Your "riddle" is answered multiple times in the preceding thread. What happened in your case, and in many other similar cases, is this: previously, your synced account was hosted on a server that had its time clock set to the same time zone your iOS device is set to. The server's time clock was set to the same time zone as your devices, and the bug still picked up the time zone of the server clock and transposes your appointment to that, but since it was the same as your device time zone you didn't see anything weird. Then either 1) the admin of your server changed its time clock setting to GMT; or much more likely, 2) your account was automatically migrated to a different physical server as part of a standard load-balancing operation and the new server's time clock is set to GMT.
The bug is present, and was present, on your devices and on all devices running iOS 8 since the original update in September. You won't see the bug unless the time clock of the server you sync with is set to a different time zone than your device is set to. Here's a simple analogy I used to explain this before: there is a small hole in your roof that has been there for months and everything was "fine"......then one day the weather changes....it starts to rain and you notice a leak. You didn't make any changes to your roof yet all of a sudden now you have a problem you can see that didn't appear to exist before. The noticeable leak, just like this bug, requires the second external variable for you to be aware that it is present.

Jan 6, 2015 7:43 AM in response to JG in SBby keyhole,Now that you mention it, I do remember that post about the server change. I guess I've been reading so much that actual, plausible explanations can sometimes be forgotten. My mistake. Thanks for the reminder though as it confirms that I'm not totally crazy!!

Jan 6, 2015 7:51 AM in response to keyholeby JG in SB,Well...glad this helps if only a little bit I can see how that would be maddening....to have everything be just fine and then, without having changed anything on your end....to have this show up seemingly on its own. At least in my case, the server I sync to has always been set to GMT so this showed up immediately when I updated to iOS 8.
When the first groups of people started to report your particular scenario (i.e. they had been OK on iOS 8 and all of a sudden this showed up without them changing anything) we didn't fully understand what causes the bug to show up yet so it was WAY more confusing. That was back in mid-November I think.....
I am cautiously optimistic that this is going to get fixed as part of the 8.1.3 update which is confirmed to be running on iOS devices out there (it is showing up in server logs of various website administrators) and will likely be released to all of us some time this month.

Jan 6, 2015 8:58 AM in response to JG in SBby 6Users,After reading many of these posts, and the helpful tips in circumventing the issue, I called Apple. Here's the latest. APPLE is hearing our voices and engineers are working aggressively on the problem. They admit it is an iOS 8 issue and they are working to resolve it but as you can imagine, this isn't a simple problem to solve and may take some time. While "Samantha" had no ETA on when the fix would come out, she did provide two helpful suggestions:
1. Make calendar appointments using an iMac device rather than iOS 8
2. Log into iCloud via a work PC and make calendar appointments that way.
Hang in there people!!!

Jan 6, 2015 10:52 AM in response to JG in SBby RallyRex," then iOS will basically have turned into Android and there will be no reason to spend more money on Apple devices. You can get a buggy experience like this one....and many more bugs that no-one get's around to resolving....on android platforms right now. And if you ask any Android user for a "solution" to whatever bug that happened to come up most recently their answer is "just use this other 3rd party app" or "just remember to subtract 8 hours from whatever your calendar shows...problem solved." As a result Google has zero motivation to try to fix anything fast because it's users are perfectly happy to live with bugs....they have come to expect them as normal....and/or relies on other companies to produce reliable software. Is this what we want to see happen with iOS? Not me."
I've been using Android since Eclair (2.0) and I've never dealt with a problem like this on Android. The only time I've replaced a stock app is when I downloaded Handcent for more messaging customization options. So, just letting you know that you sound ridiculous to anyone that actually uses Android.

Jan 6, 2015 11:02 AM in response to RallyRexby JG in SB,@RallyRex: I "actually used Android" for a few years before dumping it and switching to iOS. My experience was exactly the opposite of yours. Why would I make a statement like that unless it was based on actual experience? I used a Motorola Atrix, then an HTC Inspire, and finally the worst of them all, a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I experienced constant bugs. One of the most annoying was the Andorid would convert ALL calendar appointments set up in Outlook into "meetings" and would subsequently not allow for any of these "meetings" to be edited on the Android device. Sort of annoying don't you think? I would venture to guess that I wasn't the only Android user in all of North America that experienced these types of issues. Even this morning, if you take a quick gander at the Android support forums you will see tons of bug reports of all colors and varieties. Do I still sound "ridiculous?"
Interestingly enough...this current Calendar bug is the FIRST major bug I have ever encountered in several years on iOS.......

Jan 6, 2015 11:00 AM in response to RallyRexby Devinw ,Apple has always been about a robust hardware/software marriage in their products. Stuff that "just works" out of the box. Open source stuff can be great, but it will always have more potential holes for bugs and less-tested software code.
This calendar bug is definitely a case of something not "just working", and Apple needs to get on it and get it fixed.

Jan 6, 2015 11:08 AM in response to James Barberby DougM1757,I found the solution! It turns out that if you create a new calendar entry, just choose your correct Time Zone located under the "Starts" date and time selection. You'll notice it is set to GMT. Once you do this for one entry, all future ones will be fixed. Unfortunately, the past ones will not be fixed and changing the time zone after the fact is annoying at best.
Hope that helps,
Doug

Jan 6, 2015 11:14 AM in response to DougM1757by Devinw ,Uh...no. Many of us (myself included), can make a new event with the correct time zone selected as you show, and the GMT thing still shows up.

Jan 6, 2015 12:41 PM in response to Devinwby darylefromjacksonville,When I would create a NEW event in my iPhone6 it would appear to create the event in EST (my correct time zone) and all was fine UNLESS I went to edit the event. Then, on the edit page, it would show GMT. The GMT time was "correct" (it was 5 hours off from my EST) but it was a pain to keep calculating the correct GMT time if I needed to change the appt time. (I do not use exchange ... only gmail.)
This was new problem that JUST appeared out of the blue today with my making zero changes.
I am not going to say this will work for everyone but for me the problem disappeared totally when I deleted my gmail account and reinstalled it.
Now I can create a new event and edit it ... or edit an old event .. and all I see is EST, my correct time zone.
So it's "fixed" until the bug pops up again which could be in days or weeks and since I don't know why it popped up this time I don't know how to prevent a recurrence but ... deleting and reinstalling my gmail account from my iPhone fixed it for me.

Jan 6, 2015 1:36 PM in response to darylefromjacksonvilleby keyhole,When you deleted your Gmail account entirely from the phone you obviously lost all of your Google calander events as well. When you put your Gmail back on the phone again, we're all of your events back on your calander?

Jan 6, 2015 2:00 PM in response to keyholeby darylefromjacksonville,My gmail (google) calendar events were still on my Mac computer ... in my google / gmail account. When I reloaded Gmail onto my iPhone 6 the events all reappeared on my phone ... and they work correctly now. Hope this helps some ...

Jan 6, 2015 2:02 PM in response to darylefromjacksonvilleby darylefromjacksonville,Let me correct that ... they were still in "google". When I deleted gmail from my iPhone I could still see the events in my Mac (and my PC) when I was in Gmail. So they weren't actually on the MAC .. I could just see them there when I went to my Gmail calendar. When I reloaded Gmail to my iPhone all events reappeared.

Jan 6, 2015 2:27 PM in response to darylefromjacksonvilleby bdomer,This did not work for me at all... When you create a new event after you reinstalled what happens?
And people in this thread need to relax and stop insulting other people who post on here.
