Q: iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.

Hi everyone,

Since updating my iPhone 4S to iOS 8, the Calendar app now shows all my newly added events with GMT times, and not the local time (as I am not in GMT, I am +9 hours). All my previous and existing entries are displaying normally. I have not changed any settings at all. However, if I open one of the new events and enter the events details screen, the local times are clearly displayed along with a GMT equivalent time underneath it.

I have tried changing settings but nothing shows my events in local time as it did before the upgrade to iOS 8. Any ideas? Is this a bug? Am I missing a new setting? Many thanks in advance for your help or advice.

Cheers,

James.

    This looks encouraging.....

    http://www.macrumors.com/2015/01/16/ios-8-1-3-still-in-testing/

Appears that they decided to add more bug fixes to iOS 8.1.3 so they are still doing testing ... using their retail store employees as guinea pigs .... before pushing out the update.

In the meantime, anyone new that is checking in here should report this as bug using this link:

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Let's pray that the fix for this is in 8.1.3.

+2.  My wife and I are both having this problem exactly as you describe.  Very annoying.  I'm probably going to switch to a different calendar app.  Looking at Sunrise and at Temp.  Apple, if you can't get the basics on your calendar app right you'll lose me to another app just like you already did with maps.

This did NOT work for me.  My timezone was already set correctly in iCloud.

Guys I've fixed it already for a few buddies who had Gmail ca landers turned on under mail contacts and ca landers.  Just switch it off restart your phone and switch it back on.

Just tried your solution Dynastyboy.  Thanks for suggesting, but unfortunately it didn't work.  In fact, it made it worse.  Some of the calendars didn't have this problem and now they all do.

Keep playing with it.  Change the time zone to manual setting first then clear unsync all calendars.   Re-sync again and it should work.

    Same issue happening on me!!

    My wild guess below:

Suppose GMT format is being used to communicate with Google server while creating and editing event, the handling is different when the event sync. back from Google server.

Creating event: The event is sync. back as a cross time zone event, even though local time zone is set correctly. Conversion is done and then event is saved with GMT into iDevice.

Editing event: The event is sync. back as local time zone. No conversion is done and then event is saved without GMT into iDevice.

    Bug report submitted anyway!

Gentlemen --- some of you are new to this LONG thread and haven't read all the hundreds of comments so let me save you that process ....   This is a bug in iOS. Some contributors have confirmation of this from Apple in writing. This happens to phones where the user uses Google and Gmail and it also happens to people who use Exchange and NEVER use Google or Gmail for anything.  Some suggested "fixes" work temporarily as a patch for some users but the "bug" can reappear without warning. (Uninstalling Gmail and then installing it again worked for me -- for about 3 days).  The only "fix" that works for everyone is to switch to a calendar like Sunrise. We are all hoping this bug is addressed with the next update to iOS (8.1.3) that should be out in a week or two.

This solution may or may not work for others, but it appears to have worked on mine.  From Month view, tap a calendar entry with GMT listed, tap Edit, tap Starts, tap Time Zone, type current time zone city and select from drop-down, tap Edit Event, Do same for Ends. tap Done.  If it didn't work, try same steps with two more existing calendar entries.  When I did it, all GMT references disappeared.

    Hope it works for you.

    Thanks, that worked for me!

My appointments were being placed in the GMT time slot with my local time of the appointment displaying correctly. For example, if I made a 10:15 AM PST appointment, it would display the correct time, with the calendar placing it at 3AM GMT. Sorry, I don't know how to do screen shots here, but following Adven's steps and setting my city made GMT disappear.

Who in the world is going to go through all of that for each event?  That is not a "fix" .... only an already established work around.

i found a way to fix it.  Go to google calendar on Safari.  It will ask you to upgrade to the latest version and set your time zone on the top of the web page.  After you do both, the problem will go away.  It seems like it's a Google Calendar update that cleared out your default time zone so it's showing GMT time on devices.

I'm a user of Google Cal synced to ical on my phone. Taking Garetth's advice, I went to Google Cal on my laptop and in the settings for my primary calendar, I found indeed it shows my time zone as GMT. I don't know when that happened. I had it set correctly before. There is no option for an upgrade because I'm using the calendar off the internet. As far as I know, it upgrades itself. So I went to change the time zone, and lo and behold, it presents ALL the time zones in the world as GMT (I unchecked the "show all time zones" button and my local time zones are presented the same way). I saved this, since at least I am now in the GMT version of Pacific time - my time zone, but it didn't change anything on my phone. Same problem still. I tried changing my language, and then changing back to English. That didn't help either. There is a box under the cogwheel button of Google Cal to offer feedback there. I suggest everyone on this forum go there and comment loudly. I understand some people who are not on the Google Cal have this problem, and I don't know what to say about fixing their's, but I'm 99.9% sure if Google fixes this bug, it will fix my own problem and that of other Google Cal users.
