Q: iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.

One possible fix or workaround…

My wife was having the problem of GMT time showing up on all calendar events, underneath the time for the correct time zone. My phone wasn't having the problem, so I compared all the settings.

The one thing that differed was that she had a Google calendar as her default calendar (the one all new events are created in). Once she changed the default iPhone calendar to her iCloud account, the problem went away. (This setting in found under "Calendars, Mail, iCloud" at the bottom of the Calendar section.)

As long as she creates new events (in the iCloud calendar), saves them, and THEN changes them to whichever calendar she wants them on, the problem seems to be gone.

Obviously, we are all pretty disappointed that Apple failed to fix this bug in the 8.1.3 iOS update.  Everyone needs to keep relentless pressure on Apple to take care of this major issue quickly.

I am happy to see that some media outlets specifically pointed out that 8.1.3 does not fix the GMT Bug.  This includes:

I think it's a big deal that these outlets are making a point of informing their readers that 8.1.3 did not fix this bug.  The GMT Bug is now widespread common knowledge to the point that it's newsworthy that 8.1.3 did not include a fix for it.  That's not a solution, but it's progress.

Also, literally as I was typing this post,  this crossed the 250k view mark.  That's over a QUARTER OF A MILLION VIEWS.  People are finding this thread when they search for information about the GMT Bug...usually because they are experiencing it.  Given that a relatively small % of people who actually have the GMT Bug manifesting on their iOS devices actually go to look up info about it, it's safe to say that a quarter of a million views of this thread indicates probably over a million iOS 8 users are affected by this.  Probably more, but a million is a HUGE problem.

If you are new to this thread, and you aren't going to read through the preceding 40+ pages (I don't blame you)....please note the following:

• This is a BUG.
• Apple engineers have confirmed that this is a BUG.
• It isn't due to your server etc. it is baked in to the iOS code.
• You can't fix it by changing settings, resetting your device etc.
• There are a few less than convenient "workarounds" that people have used with varying degrees of success.
• There is no magic "fix."
• Apple needs to fix this, and their software engineers are the only people who can fix it.

As before, the best thing you can do if you want this fixed is to file a bug report with Apple.  Here is the link to do that:

I Hope an asteroid hits earth tomorrow so that when it does hit the last thing on your mind was a software bug.

Thanks for taking time to post all of the links. All we can do is keep encouraging people to report the issue to Apple.

I have the same problem with exchange calendar events created on iOS. (8.1.3) except times for my events show up in CST (Chicago), not GMT.  I'm not sure why, but I think the Exchange server is in CST.  I'm in EST, so obviously this is wrong.

it actually does show both EST and CST, but when editing it uses only CST (Chicago).

You got it....the CLOCK on your Exchange server is set to CST.  Don't know if the server is physically located there, but I can tell you 100% that its clock is set to CST which is why you are seeing this.  That's a textbook example of the "GMT Bug" even though in your case it is not GMT.

I have found that a very similar bug happens also with the "alert" of the calendar events: they don't sync properly exactly as it happens with the GMT problem.

I have just left a report on the Apple website, as you indicated.

Sorry ... doesn't work for me.  I tried this back in the "early days" (Oct/Nov) of the "bug" and tried again today after the 8.1.3 update.

I have only MS Office365 calendars (3 of them -  work1, work2, home) in my iOS settings (iPhone, Ipads, etc.) --  I have no Google, Yahoo or Apple iCloud calendars.

The problem continues for my setup.  There is no workaround that is reasonable.   Hence, why I have abandoned Apple's iOS calendar and moved onto another iOS calendar (Calendars 5 and Acompli -- they work fine).

Great that your wife can do all her calendar with iCloud .....  But those of us that need flexibility (synchronization) between multiple sources are still out of luck.

Ug, I was really hoping IOS 8.1.3 would fix this and it didn't. 

I just updated to iOS 8.1.3 and the GMT bug persist. Until Apple officially patches the GMT bug it is best that you read the threads and refrain from posting "I fixed the issue by doing this ..." or "It worked for me; give this a try".

Alternative solution is to use Sunrise Calendar App.

I don't use iCloud Calendar, MS Office 365, or Exchange Server. I use Google Calendar (CalDav) via iOS Calendar!

To remedy the GMT bug. I use the mobile version of Google Calendar from my iOS devices.

This is by no means a solution, and I have read through most of these posts - but I do have another clue to the puzzle for anyone at Apple who can resolve this. 

I am using a Google Apps account (business) along with my iCloud (personal) - the iCloud does not experience the GMT issue, but the Google Calendar does. My Google Calendar settings are to have my correct timezone as the default (PST) as is my iOS and OS X settings.  When an event is created in OS X Calendar or iOS Calendar for Google the correct time shows momentarily then adds in a GMT time (as experienced by other users).  However, when I open the newly created event in Google Calendar the default timezone is not set.  Once I set the timezone in Google Calendar, the GMT time disappears from iOS and OS X.  To add to the pot, if I create a new event in Google Calendar without setting the timezone for the event then GMT appears in the iOS and OS X calendars.

Therefore, I see a two part problem.  Google does not accurately associate a timezone to the events being created in their own calendar (but may not be an issue if only being used as a local calendar), but Apple is not setting the timezone on syncing calendars.  This leads to a Apple and Google are not playing nice again discussion, but there might also be some truth to the statement (made many posts ago) that one of the companies may not be managing the calendar standard correctly to play nice with everyone else.

Hope this gets resolved soon, I can't keep setting aside a part of my week to fix calendar events.

I just wanted to add a big THANKS @JG in SB (and some of the rest of y'all) for tireless patient work on this thread.

FWIW, my bug didn't manifest until today, which may just be a random server change deal but may be because this was (I *think*!) the first time I've accessed calendar via my iPad since upgrading to IOS8. (School has started and I'm carrying the iPad more than just my iPhone.) That fits with JG's two-device theory -- just in case any of you Apple Techs happen to be reading along in the midst of your denials, yes??

Everything else posted here by the smart people has made sense, and the hour I've invested in reading has saved me from a similar hour rebooting, rehashing, head-desking, or whatever else.

I've posted my complaint to the apple bug report site (thanks for that link!) and I think I will just keep working on using Calendar on my desktop/laptop as my go-to schedulers most of the time. Or maybe I'll buy one of those (gasp) little paper dealies that people used to carry in the dark ages. SIGH. I'm afraid I don't have the patience to re-enter all my meeting times or learn another calendaring system, though if we get to 8.75 with no fix....

Finally, another hat tip to JC Powers for making me LOL with the list of GMT countries I could move to where my phone calendar would always work in sync with my Google Calendar. Togo sounds good this time of year.
