I'm also having some problems with wireless in 10.9.5. I've updated this morning and I've had to reconnect around 5 times. Usually my connection is completely out. I could try loading a page, but it won't load no matter how long I wait. The only solution is temporary -- To disconnect then reconnect to my router.

Hold down the option key and select the Wi-Fi menu in the menu bar. What values are shown for the following?

              PHY Mode

              Channel

              Security

              Signal/Noise or RSSI

              Transmit Rate

Please do not post the BSSID, as that information is private.

Now hold down the option key again and select

               â–¹ System Information... â–¹ Network â–¹ Wi-Fi

Compare the two-letter Country Code with the ISO code for your country. Does it match? The code X0 means that the country couldn't be determined. The code X3 means South America, not otherwise specified.

    PHY Mode: 802.11g

    Channle: 4 (2.4 GHz)

    Security: WEP

    RSSI: -66

    Transmit Rate: 18

    Country codes match. What next?

I was using aThunderbolt Bridge to migrate some files before the problem happened. Did this cause the problem? If so, how do I undo the issues?

    Many thanks

Change the connection protocol to 802.11n and the security to WPA 2 Personal. If the router doesn't have those settings, replace it.

Sadly, I too, have had this problem and I have the settings 802.11n and WPA2 Personal.

I'm very interested in anything to try to fix this.

    I've tried:

    - resetting the NVRAM and SMC

    - deleting the WiFi device and re-adding it.

    - removing the "internet" preferences that is suggested in posts.

    So I'm kinda stumped.

    DrBob

None of these worked. I got fed up and ended up getting a new router and all is OK.

I have the same problem with 10.9.5 and wifi connections dropping for no reason. Here is my data:

              PHY Mode : 802.11n

              Channel : 6 (2.4 GHz)

              Security : None

              RSSI : -63

              Transmit Rate : 73

The country codes do not match.

    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance.

AS I said in my last post, I changed the router and all worked without adjustment. I had tried everything before that

Right - my problem is that I'm travelling, and am encountering this problem with wifi connections at hotels and guesthouses and so on (not back home). It's super annoying and I'm pretty angry that this 'update' has made it hard for me to access internet on the road, whereas in the past I never had these issues. I guess I need to go back to an earlier version of Mavericks. I was just wondering if there was some fix in light of my specific circumstances.

Me too, I have wifi problems after updating to 10.9.5

I did not update this machine to Yosemite since wifi problems occur very frequently with Yosimite, but now Mavericks has been updated to follow the crap performance of Yosimite. This is a very brilliant innovation by apple. Congrats.

Same problem... 169.254.xxx. After trying out several solutions...

    (1) Restarted my mac several times

    (2) SMC reset

    (3) PRAM reset

    (4) removed all network profiles and renewed them

    (5) deleted all Keychain access related to network (airport)

    (6) deleted network configuration plist file

    (7) deleted bluetooth configuration plist file

    (8) deleted the system configuration folder entirely

The one thing that worked was this bluetooth thing...

    (9) System preferences -> Network > Redefine the priority of the connections (wifi, ethernet, bluetooth,...). Strangely a Bluetooth DUN appeared that was not shown. Added Bluetooth DUN and then deleted it. Checked if it was gone in the Redefine priority.

    (10) Just in case deleted bluetooth configuration plist file again. Restarted mac again. Tadaaaa! It works!

I really don't know if steps (1) to (8) were necessary. Step (9) was crucial.
