How do I burn a DVD over 120 minutes

My movie is 127 minutes long. My DVDs are only 120 minutes long. I know on a pc there are things like DVD shrink which will compress it accordingly. Is there something like this for the mac?

FYI- programs I'm familiar with Final Cut Pro & IDVD

iDVD won't do a DVD over 90 minutes. Unless they've changed that since I used it.

Use Compressor. If you use a lower bitrate, you'll be able to make it fit.

Or use a good bit rate and a dual layer DVD.

You need to build to a disc image though.

That's not technically correct. DVD discs do not have 'length' at all. While the generally accepted program length for a burned DVD-Video is around 2 hours in order to maintain decent quality. But in reality, program length actually has nothing to do with how much data the disc will hold.

If you have Compressor and DVD-SP you could easily fit your program on a single layer disc (DVD 5) or on a dual layer disc (DVD 9). Or, if you have a DVD recorder, most will allow up to 6 hours of programming on a DVD 5 (although quality will suffer).

Just to add something to the previous answers:

iDVD can just fit 90 min because use uncompressed audio.

Use Compressor 120 min preset to encode to MPEG2 video and Dolby AC3 audio. I don't know if the extra 7 min could be a problem to fit in a DVD5.

The key factor is encoding your audio to AC3. That will give you a lot of extra space for your video "without" a sensible quality audio loss in your audio.

Compressor has a 150 min setting for compressing for DVD Studio Pro.

Won't be the best quality, but it'll fit.
