iphone 6: siri and voice text not working.

I did siri trouble shooting, and restored phone completely. Siri hasn't worked at all since turning the phone on (Sept.19th). Mic works - can make calls, voice messages etc. Is there something that I'm not doing? or do I have to get a new phone?

The Siri page would come up as requested, but it would not take in any of my audio request. It was just frozen, or it would give its standard Siri tone each time the microphone button was pressed. Had been going on for a week or two before it got really annoying. Tested microphone in voice memo and by calling myself, works fine. Audio works fine, plays iPod.

I have to say our internet was down, and our cable tv has been acting funny for weeks. Reset network settings worked for me, as Siri is back. Thanks!

I had a similar issue - Siri came up but seemed to not hear anything when I spoke and eventually just showed me the list of what Siri can do. I tried all of the above suggestions but none fixed my issue so I took it to the apple store. They told me that Siri uses the rear mic, which was defective in my iPhone 6 (this is why I hadn't had any problems with regular phone calls etc). They gave me a new phone and Siri has worked perfectly since.

I too have this problem. If I ask Siri to call a number I have no problem. But recently, if I ask him (I'm in the UK) to make a note, he just dials random numbers. This only started about a week ago, when because of another problem I had to reset all settings on my phone. I really don't want to have to do this again. But I do want to use Siri for more than just making calls.

Incidentally, Siri's UK voice has changed again. Anyone else noticed this?

In my case it cant seem to find the mic. Saw that when i record voice to text i only get distorted noise so thats what siri must be hearing. Just restored is as new (from dfu mode) and did not fix. Been reading elsewhere on the forum, discussion on hardware vs software although neither solution seems to do the trick. I feel its software, as my phone has been treated well. Latest ios update 8.1.3, iphone 6.

So get this: I'm on my FOURTH replacement phone from Apple because of this exact problem. At first I was told it was the rear mic that was defective somehow. Now they're telling me that it's the front mic, the one in the earpiece that does noise cancellation, that's burning out, and that's why Siri can't hear me and neither does dictation. I don't know what to do anymore. It's definitely a software problem I think. Some software is constantly messing with the front mic?

I have an iPhone 6 Silver 64gig. I've never heard this problem happening to 6 Plus users.

Thoughts?

Been coming back to this forum to see if anybody comes up with a fix, but your post is worrisome as i cant see myself going for a replacement four (4!) times. It does feed the argument this being a software issue, though. Might be a combo with apps being used so here goes; i use my phone for mostly emailing, dont chat much, lots of planning agenda (with siri if it would work), making (voice) notes, some pictures, skype always open, imessage with voice messaging, i use some running tracker apps and a lot of safari but thats about it, really. The wierd thing is that in whatsapp for example the mic (front or back, dunno) is working fine. In apps like Notabilty, voice notes are fine. Its just apple apps siri, voice notes in imessage.

Im going back with my phone tomorrow and if they give me a new one will try to avoid upgrade patches and see how that goes.

so i got my iPhone 6 less than a month ago and everything worked perfectly. then today i went to use siri to send a text and nothing. I thought it might be some Bluetooth device interfering with it but when i turned Bluetooth off it still wouldn't work. I have the same symptoms as everyone else siri works through my headphones but not through the speaker on the phone voice texting just sounds like static video text sounds the same. but the weird thing is if i turn siri off voice control works just fine. i was using 8.1.2 i restored to that firmware and nothing changed and i also tried upgrading to 8.1.3 and it still didn't work. so i'm hard pressed to call this a software problem since mine just came on all of a sudden. and i have tried 2 different versions of the firmware.

I am also having the same issue. 64gb iPhone 6 plus gold. Voice recorder works, speakerphone, normal calls, videos have audio. It's just Siri and voice dictation. I have closed all background apps, performed a soft reset, a hard reset, reset network settings, disabled bluetooth. All to no avail, due to the nature of the issue and the fact that other features work properly that use the mic and noise canceling I suspect the problem is a software issue and anticipate an iOS 8.1.4 update to be released sometime in the near future as Apple Engineering is already aware of the issue according to a prior reply to your post.
