Q: iphone 6: siri and voice text not working.

I did siri trouble shooting, and restored phone completely. Siri hasn't worked at all since turning the phone on (Sept.19th). Mic works - can make calls, voice messages etc. Is there something that I'm not doing? or do I have to get a new phone?

iPhone 6, iOS 8

Tried everything, then decided to power down and power up my fairly new IPhone 6+.

Siri and Voice to text are back.  Audio recording and phone conversations were okay, but suddenly lost the voice to text and Siri.  No setting change seemed to fix it, but the PDPU reboot - not system reset - did the trick.

I finally went to a local store that covers the apple guarantee where they tried to fully restore it, connect it to the apple diagnostic server, opened it up etc. Nothing worked, as didn't my own resets, factory resets, network settings resets. Since this is Colombia, they will have to send it to the US where they´ll either fix it or send me a new one. I am now without a phone for at least 25 days but, you know, whatever. Spending 750US and then not having a fully functional phone is not an option. Just hope that it wont be like the previous poster who´s on his 4th replacement.

This past weekend I decided to try a restore from DFU mode since this Siri issue was really bugging me. Well, it still did not fix the issue with Siri not working. It was then that I made an Apple Genius Bar appointment. I went in last night and the person at the Genius Bar said he never heard of the issue before, He tried to use Siri a few times and checked thru a trouble shooting manual and didn't see this issue listed and issued me a replacement phone.

I was holding my breath that when I restored the phone Siri may not work, but thankfully the restore didn't break Siri.. I even hesitated to to upgrade to iOS 8.1.3 but went for it and Siri still works, So who knows it may have been a hardware issue with the mic after all?

Glad to have a fully functional phone again though this one has a really loud click on the home button but hey, it's not bent and the screen looks fine lol!

This is to all that come back here looking for solutions as my problem has been fixed. And it was fast considering i live in Bogotá so thank you Apple. A local authorised service provider (iShop Colombia) took it in, asked for 5 days diagnostics + 30 days if replacement got approved, but i got an email on the 3rd day saying Apple US will take it in. The replacement arrived in a total of 8 days. Now, i was hesitant to update to latest 8.1.3 but went for it anyway. Just tested everything; Siri, dictation and voice messaging through imessage have returned fully functional. To me this proves it was a hardware problem after all, at least in this case. So if your problem with Siri and voice to text is persistent and no software solutions are working just send it back. Apple is probably aware since i got a new phone without delay. Good luck.

Same here! Saw that your problem was one of the mics as well. Glad the replacement worked out.

Likewise! Glad you also got a replacement in a decent amount of time considering your location.

Without doing a tear down and test it still is a bit of a mystery as to whether it was software or hardware related. I'm just happy Apple swapped out the phone with a working Siri,

I also discovered there were a few more things to set up when moving over to a totally new phone vs. doing a restore on an existing  phone.

I've had the same issues since I had my iPhone 5.  It's got to be software - not sure which version when It began but I have to do a hard boot so often it's gotten to the point I don't use it.  This is my last IPhone.  All of the versions released and they don't seem to fix the issue.  There is no way they're not aware of this problem.  I will sometimes click on the microphone to ask siri a question but siri can't hear me and there is no volume from it.... just dead air.  Also, I'd click on the microphone to dictate an email but it the iPhone doesn't acknowledge my voice and when I press the microphone to end the attempt, the little circle where the words would have been go round and round and round and round until I backspace and just type.   I've done everything everyone said.  Two IPhone 5's and a 6.  Same issue.  No improvement.  No more Apple products.   It'd be noble of Apple to address the issue.....

I'm having the same problem... new iPhone 6's Siri and all voice-to-text related functions started acting flaky then stopped working altogether. It does work with the Apple provided earbuds, though. So it's like the built-in microphone is not working, but the built-in mic clearly works fine with voice memos and phone calls. Lots of posts about this all over the net and I've tried all the rec'd solutions above with no luck. Even stepped through the factory reset with the Verizon rep 3 times. It worked intermittently for a while, then gradually stopped working.

It's surprising that the 2 Verizon reps and the apple rep I talked to seem (or pretend) to not even know the problem exists!? Just Google "Siri stopped working" and there's dozens of hits. Has anybody run into an Apple rep who is aware of this problem and admits it? The only solution offered was to swap out my brand new phone with a refurb'd one. Not ready to do that yet. Frustrating!

Ok, I went to an area Apple Store yesterday. After the tech ran some diagnostics and wiped my phone to make sure it wasn't a software issue me exchanged out my phone. Siri and voice dictation are working fine once again.

Glad a network reset worked for you!  That was one of the first things I tried after the other little things like rebooting, turning off Siri and rebooting, turn on/off bluetooth etc. Gosh, in the end I spent so many hours trying everything I could including Reset-All and finally a DFU reformat and restore not to mention all the gotchas like finding out I needed to reset alarms and such .

I certainly understand having to go through the troubleshooting steps as in your case the Network Reset actually worked.

However, I am still curious about this issue and would really like to know if there is a really problem with the mics or if not, how software could mess Siri up even through a factory reset. It is also interesting that this is also happening to people with iPhone 5's.

I'll still be following this thread even though I once again have a fully operational phone. Also don't think I'm going to install iOS 8.2 on the first day.

The network reset didn't work for me. It took a full factory reset and then it went south again. Works fine with a blue tooth headset and the ear buds, but not the built-in phone mic... which is what I really need. I don't use a headset or ear buds. I know the mic works fine. Would love to see a fix... or at least Apple acknowledging the problem.

I'm curious to see whether the iOS 8.2 update may have addressed the issue with Siri not working?

i had initially considered waiting for this update to see for myself but after doing a full wipe and restore didn't hold out much hope and went into Apple.

I just updated my iPhone 6 (64GB) Gold to iOS 8.2... I'm still having the same issue with my microphone.  My mic works perfect with google talk, camera, voice memo's, etc... It DOES NOT work with Siri and dictation, this tells me its a software issue!  I have tried everything in this forum to no avail.  I am currently on the "iPhone for Life" plan with Sprint, I wonder if I would qualify for a replacement phone (since this seems like the only way I can use the phone like it was designed to be used)
