Nov 12, 2014 9:49 AM in response to contentkiwiby geehaad,I'm sure others have posted similar solutions elsewhere in this thread, but if you are searching for a PlayCount fix, you can use one of the scripts found on this site:

Nov 15, 2014 8:17 PM in response to Angeltearxby wuzwashere,Same exact problem. Thanks for neglecting this problem through iOS 8.0.1, iOS 8.0.2, and iOS 8.1.0. I have an iPhone 6 Plus with the latest software and I've been forced to forgo my long established Top 50 Most Played list because it's showing that I've played random songs hundreds of times. This is ridiculous. Apple, PLEASE fix this!

Nov 16, 2014 6:03 PM in response to Angeltearxby thekingoflimbs, this is such a frustrating issue. only a minor thing that shouldn't bother me as much as it does but it just irritates me. i like to keep track of my playcounts. it's been really bad ever since i got a new laptop around 2 months ago, and installed itunes on my new laptop. same issues as you all describe it seems - only a problem when syncing from my ipod, never when playing songs on my computer. and no pattern. initially i thought it was only itunes store purchases, as the playcounts on the royal blood album and alt-j's new album went mental. but i noticed that it wasn't just purchases, although it seems to affect a larger percentage of them... some songs are worse than others, some only go mental when you play them whilst others sometimes just add a couple of plays now and then even if they haven't been played. it's totally random. bizarre really. i've sent them feedback and just really hope it is fixed soon, but in the meantime if anyone has a genius method to correct these glitches i'd be very appreciative.

Nov 17, 2014 3:54 AM in response to thekingoflimbsby randy98mtu,It's not a minor thing to those of us who use play counts. It's not a feature, it's part of the foundation of the whole system for me. Without accurate play counts, the whole thing becomes useless to me. I can't even use any of these very expensive devices with 8.1.
I just hope Apple releases 8.1.1 tomorrow, as I suspect this bug is fixed by it.

A bit late in the day I'm afraid, but the script ExportImportPlays would allow you to shift-start-iTunes and access a pre-iOS 8 archive of your library in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, export the play and skip counts from it, then reconnect to your main library and import those values. It won't be entirely correct, but perhaps less wrong than what you have now. Another script, AddToPlays can be used to add or subtract a chosen value to or from the play counts of a selection of tracks.

Nov 26, 2014 9:40 PM in response to turingtest2by mayhew3,These are some good scripts for repairing the Play Count damage.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way to make those changes stick with iTunes Match. Does anyone else use this, or know if there's a way you can override Match's value for the PlayCount field with one corrected with a script like this? It just replaces my changes back with the original values before I ran the script.

Nov 27, 2014 12:37 AM in response to mayhew3by turingtest2,I'm afraid I don't use iTunes Match so I don't know the details of how it behaves, but if you temporarily disconnect from the network you should be able to export the play counts from an older library file without them being updated.
