Q: Itunes playcount too high

Hi there. I just downloaded the latest Itunes (for Windows) and updated my Ipod Touch (gen 5) to iOS 8, and now every time I play a song (on my Ipod), the play count won't get updated properly. Listening a song once increases the playcount randomly. Sometimes it increases with 1, but in many cases, it increases with 2, 3 or 5 or even up to 20. I never had this issue before. The playcount was always spot on. Now, it is total trash. Why is this and how can I fix this?

Note: only happens on my Ipod. If I play a song on Itunes itself (on my computer), the playcount increases properly.

Thanks in advance!

I really hope this gets fixed in the next ios update, i'm having to use Google Music to listen to my music which is a nightmare, I want to be able to use my iphones music player without fear of a song jumping to a ridiculous number of plays and messing up my smart playlists.

iOS 8.0.2 doesn't fix it, unfortunately.

    Hello,

Question to everyone : are you sure problem is in iOS 8 and not iTunes because problem appears recently with a new version of iTunes too ?

I believe you need the latest itunes to sync a device with ios8 so it could be itunes but the option to use an older version isn't possible.

Please make sure you fill out the feedback form (link on the last page) it's really quick and if lots of people do this we have a better chance of it being fixed in the next ios update

I chatted with support today about this and they have scheduled a phone support call to me for next weekend so it can be sent off to the engineers. Why that can't be done by their chat agent I can't understand.

I fixed this somehow (I think I deleted and reinstalled iTunes so not exactly fixed) a couple of weeks ago and it was fine until today, it's started playing up again.

Nope I uninstalled itunes, then reinstalled it, listened to a new song i've not listened to before, synced it, playcount shown as 1, listened again, synced it, playcount showing as 3. Itunes knowns i listened to it once, the phone knows i listened to it twice but doesn't take into account the sync in between listens so adds them all together.

It's such a simple issue, the iphone/ipod/ipad playcounts aren't being reset after each sync, now whether that's an ios issue or an itunes issue I don't know, either way it's incredibly annoying and needs to be fixed.

I really hope the next ios or itunes update fixes this.

It may well be a combination of iOS8 and the latest iTunes, but I am not experiencing the problem with my iPod Classic, which tends to suggests the issue is more likely an iOS8 'feature' rather than anything iTunes related.

Keen to hear how Daniel Dance fares with his phone support call.

It also still works perfectly (without having to delete anything) with my iPod Touch which runs iOS 6, which further suggests the problem is in iOS 8 rather than iTunes. Even better, it syncs in under a minute rather than the 5+ minutes the iPhone has been taking since iOS 7. Unlike the last two iterations, iOS 6 Just Works (And It Works The Way It's Supposed To).

well itunes 12 didn't fix this so it's fairly safe to say the problem is ios 8 ... fingers crossed for Monday and ios 8.1

I also really hope they've listened. Like others have said it sounds like this is an issue that probably doesn't get reported as often because plenty of people don't care about play counts in the first place, but those of who have been making playlists and other things based off of them really value this info. If iOS 8.1 on Monday doesn't fix this, I'm worried a real fix could be a very long time coming.

I reset them on my itunes when i sync to my iphone nothing happened, still the tops song on playlist is the same.... and have an amount of plays. even if i reset again and again it shows the same amount all time... very bad because I used to reset every week. So now I can't do that

Same problem here. For me this is a huge deal. Please fix this. Play counts are what makes iTunes work for me. And this bug has already damaged my Library. It's gotta be IOS8, Beause as said above, iTunes 12 didn't fix it.
