Oct 19, 2014 3:13 PM in response to Angeltearxby Daniel Dance,Had the support call today. Talked to a senior advisor and she had me collect and send itunes, iphone, and pc logs for them to investigate. She'll be calling me back on Tuesday with an update.
Really hope they can get this fixed.

Oct 20, 2014 6:00 AM in response to Daniel Danceby jawncook,I take this to mean we shouldn't expect iOS 8.1 to fix this issue??

Oct 20, 2014 6:11 AM in response to jawncookby hullaballoo,Hopefully in this instance Apple are like most big organisations - the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing

Oct 20, 2014 6:30 AM in response to hullaballooby ChrisLisi1982,It's such a minor bug compared to the others that I wouldn't be surprised if Apple hadn't fixed it, I wonder if we'll get an ios 8.1.1 or if we'll have to wait until 8.2 IF it's not fixed today

Oct 20, 2014 7:15 AM in response to ChrisLisi1982by jawncook,I strongly disagree with the comment that this is a minor bug. From what I can tell it is affecting everyone, but not everyone uses iTunes or pays attention to the information showing play counts. In fact, most people won't care. For those of us who do care, we rely on this information for the way we enjoy our devices (smart playlists, etc.) One of the things that set Apple apart for me as my music player is that functionality in iTunes. I feel the pain of how devastating it can be to have information that was once useful and accurate be corrupted. Apple needs to fix it ASAP, and I'm still crossing my fingers for iOS 8.1 to fix it. We shouldn't have to rely on workarounds to have our devices do what they used to do with no problems. Play count information has been supported since the first iPod and this glitch isn't one that should be put on the back-burner.

Oct 20, 2014 9:59 AM in response to jawncookby ChrisLisi1982,I mean minor as in there has been no public criticism of this bug, unlike the bluetooth one, it certainly isn't minor to me but to Apple it may be a lower priority and we still don't know if any of our feedback reports or forum posts have reached the team that actually fix these bugs

Oct 20, 2014 11:11 AM in response to Angeltearxby ree-Klayton,iOS 8.1 don't help. The problem is still here..

Oct 20, 2014 11:16 AM in response to ree-Klaytonby ChrisLisi1982,Absolutely useless. It's been an issue since ios 8 - thats over a month with 2 updates (3 if you count 8.0.1) and it STILL hasn't been fixed.

Oct 20, 2014 11:55 AM in response to riro chenby Daniel Stone2,Very frustrating! I have a number of smart playlists that use play counts. For example...20 most played songs; 25 most played songs from 2013; etc. Now they are going to be useless. I noticed this problem a couple of weeks ago, so, I'm glad to hear that others are having the same issue. I've reported a problem to Apple but never received a reply of any kind. Not that I expected one...as others have said this is probably a "minor" problem to them. But, why support play counts in the first place if you're not going to care if they work?
Has anyone figured out a workaround for this? I've been going in and manually updating play counts by using a script I downloaded a number of years ago. But, I'm just guessing at what the correct play count should be. I just know that I certainly did NOT listen to "A Sky Full of Stars" 188 times yesterday.
Ugh.
I really wish Apple would let you go back to iOS 7.

Oct 20, 2014 12:24 PM in response to Angeltearxby ChrisLisi1982,I emailed Craig Federighi and got this reply:
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the note. We are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. Sorry for the inconvenience!
- craigSo lets hope ios 8.1.1 is soon and fixes it!
I know its still not right as I added a new song, put it on my phone, listened to it from start to finish, synced my phone, playcount on itunes was 1, I listened to it right the way through again, then synced it again and it went to 3.
