windows 8
itunes 12.0.1.26
iphone 6 plus with ios 8.1

Oct 20, 2014 2:27 PM in response to ChrisLisi1982by Darren Tunstall,It's still not working for me either.
iPhone 4s with iOS 8.1
iTunes 12.0.1.26 on a Mac Mini with OS X 10.10
This is just terrible customer service from Apple. Breaking features (and devices!) that have worked for years. Looks like I'll be using my old iOS 6 iPod Touch for a while yet.
I've been a loyal Apple customer and evangelist for 15 years now but my patience is wearing thin.

Oct 20, 2014 2:53 PM in response to Darren Tunstallby Meany44,Yeah me too...I basically started to use Macs because of iTunes in the very early noughties...really rather annoying. Have also discovered that the new iTunes (12) has some really annoying features...For one shortcuts have been removed from the info menu of songs...etc. etc..really is very aggravating when they remove features or mess them up. Never understand why they cannot leave things that are not so popular in the background as enableable features...here's hoping they sort this out soon.

Oct 20, 2014 3:37 PM in response to Angeltearxby ChrisLisi1982,I've tried resetting the whole iphone (with ios 8.1) and putting all my music back on there, it hasn't made any difference. Still broke.

Oct 20, 2014 6:10 PM in response to Angeltearxby jawncook,One thing that has worked well for me is that I'm a Last.fm user and I "scrobble" my iTunes plays (including iPhone plays that show in iTunes) to the site. I have the Last.fm Scrobbler app set to ask me each time I want to load my plays to the site, so anytime I see a weird play count over 1 or play counts being updated from songs I haven't played since my last sync I'll know to correct them. I had been resetting the plays and just playing the tracks enough times but that was too tedious. I'm not a programmer type of mind myself, but as others have stated there are some great scripts available that will allow one to manually change plays. That combined with Last.fm scrobbling has allowed me to maintain the integrity of my play count data (albeit with some extra work).
http://kalebgrace.com/code/itunes/scripts/play_count_-_change_selected.vbs
If you save that file (you can also just highlight the text and enter it into Notepad and save as a .vbs file) you can then highlight tracks and adjust them up or down whatever amount of plays.
I'm very annoyed and frustrated with Apple right now for having not corrected this bug with iOS 8.0.2 or 8.1, but I wanted to make sure to share what I'm doing to maintain the integrity of my play counts. From what I've been able to gather, the method of deleting all music and then re-syncing each time does seem to help to a degree, but it doesn't completely solve the problem. I would suggest as many people as possible to call Apple customer support so they recognize this as a known issue worth fixing.

Oct 21, 2014 5:14 PM in response to jawncookby fauxpasblues,Last.fm was what made me realize their was a problem in the first place. I had a top played song at 69 (Last 2 Months), Last.fm said it was 28. Checked other Play Counts and then it became clear. I use the CloudScrob App before I sync as I find it much faster than waiting on the Last.fm Scrobbler to do it. I've done a bit of resetting & one track repeating, didn't know about the scripts, might take a look.
Anyway, I can't use my iPhone to play music now, which is ridiculous. I'm using an old iOS 7 device for that. It's becoming increasingly harder to recommend "i" anything to anyone, as I have always done. iOS 8 has not been kind. This latest Play Count bug pushed me to join this forum. I just can't believe it wasn't patched with iOS 8.1. I hope they fix it soon. Please do.

Oct 21, 2014 10:33 PM in response to fauxpasbluesby Daniel Dance,The senior advisor checked in with me. She said that the engineers confirmed that there's an issue and they're looking into a fix. She's going to keep me updated.

Oct 21, 2014 11:33 PM in response to fauxpasbluesby hullaballoo,Yep, Last.fm also highlighted it to me. Good job as I wouldn't have spotted it for ages.
My luck's ran out again - the problem has returned.

Oct 22, 2014 9:53 AM in response to Angeltearxby mteward,I've had this problem on IOS 7 also but it was sorted almost immediately i believe. I was just talking to apple support and they were basically clueless. I can't believe they still haven't sorted such a minor bug out.

Oct 22, 2014 12:40 PM in response to mtewardby electrophile888,I have the issue; iTunes is as good as broken to me without correct playcounts.
I've just updated to the latest iOS. Do we know if this fixes it? I'll be testing it tomorrow.

Oct 22, 2014 8:44 PM in response to riro chenby Shearenn,Unfortunately, 8.1 is not a cure-all for this issue still having the problem. And whats more annoying is I'm not sure when it started and to what degree....this is just too much for my pseudo-OCD. Like how did this feature even get messed up? Why even touch the code for it? *sigh*

Oct 22, 2014 9:53 PM in response to RodrigoQuadradoby Shearenn,Ahhh yeah I knew that. I meant as in, when exactly it started messing up my plays. I originally found out from a friend and he's like, 'don't sync your phone!' So I did a test on a song and it was fine....then I tried another song and it added 5 extra plays.
