Anyone else not seeing an option to name a group chat? I've brought up the details and swiped down and am not being given an option to name the chat. Does everyone in the group chat have to be an iPhone user?

That is exactly right. Is stupid but that's the only way it would work. I just switched to the iPhone 7 Plus from the LG flex two and I was disappointed to see that this feature does not carry over to Apple iPhone which supposed to be the best.

To give a group message thread a name please do the following:
Give a group a name. While viewing the conversation, tap Details, then drag down and enter the name in the Subject line.

Other people are having this issue as well. There's no subject line that appears when I swipe down. Nothing happens. Nothing appears. I'm not new to iPhone so I know how to operate one, I've watched a YT video of someone naming the group chat. For some reason it doesn't work for on my phone. I've tried this on at least 5 group chats that are in my messages.

I have this problem too. For some reason I was able to name the same group chat using my iPad message app even though I could not name it on my iPhone.
I just learned from Apple Support that you can only give a name to a group text group if all of the members of the group use an iPhone. I had this problem, and one person in the group has a Samsung phone. When I created the same group without that one member, I was able to name the group.
I Have also had this issue and I am trying to do this with only people on iPhones and it still isn't working
Sorry if this doesn't work for you but it did for me. Go under settings>Messages And deselect your IMessage (you may need to conduct a hard reset here) then slide Imessage back on and it should ask you to sign in with your Apple ID after it logs in to IMessage test your ability to rename group chat. Test it with two numbers you know are iPhone and using iMessage, as those previous post do apply. I did find that if you name the group chat before non iOS users are added the group name remains, but create the name firet before adding them
FIXED! I had this issue. Go to Setting>Messages> then select SHOW SUBJECT FIELD. As long as all numbers are iPhones, it works.

As long as all of the numbers are using iMessage, it will work. You don't need to select Show Subject Field.
