This is going to sound off the wall but I think I found a solution. I just had the same problem with an IPad 3 with the incorrect wifi password problem. did everything as instructed and didn't work. What did work is I went to my wifi network and went into settings and noticed that in the MAC address filter section that my iPad was the only thing on my network blocked. It was weird because I have never used Mac filtering before. check your Mac filter settings on your home network router and see if your Idevice is blocked as well. unblock it or disable Mac address filtering. If this solves the problem let me know

I think you are on to something.

Temporary workaround to iPhone 5c incorrect password WiFi error

I have a new iPhone 5c, and it would not connect to a Belkin N wifi router running WPA encryption. I had configured the router to allow access from the phone's mac address, but was still getting the incorrect password error on the iPhone. The only way the phone can access the router is to disable the MAC access restriction on the router. This would allow anyone to access the router (if they knew the password) so I have had to remove the restriction on which MACs are allowed. This is the only way it lets the iPhone on. Needless to say, the error given by the iPhone5, "incorrect password" is itself incorrect. The actual error appears due to the mac address filtering not allowing the iPhone to connect. Re-enabling the MAC access restriction on the router stops the iphone connecting again and brings up the incorrect password error again. Turning the encryption off did not cure the fault. I suspect it may be some handshaking issue between the router and the iPhone, but my limited knowledge has just been reached. I would prefer to restrict the MACs that can access the router, but for now this appears a partial fix. I await the next iPhone5 software update with anticipation...Hope that helps you.

Yeah so what the problem could be is a iOS bug (of course) but what it is doing is finding a way to block itself via MAC address. the reason why people reset or restore their Idevices and have no luck is simply because you can not reset a MAC address since its encrypted into the hardware. So as long as most people figure out how to turn off their MAC addresss filtering on their wifi routers/ home networks they will be fine for now until Apple addresses the problem which should have been by now. It differs by brand of the network router you pruchase but the one I solved the problem on was a linkysys n600 router and I used advanced settings to turn it off. the .exe application to set up the wifi router showed no luck for Mac address filtering that I saw although I did not mess around with it enough to see if there was MAC address filtering in the application. I went to my web browser and typed in 192.168.1.1 and typed in my username and password and navigated through the wireless security to turn it off. for netgear I know its 192.168.0.1 but also i will say most router logins require a hard wire unless you altered it otherwise meaning you have to be connected to the router via Ethernet(CAT5/6) cable. Just find a ay into your router and disable your wifi MAC filtering and hopefully that fixes the temporary glitch.

Hi, the same problem happened to me yesterday. It worked fine in the morning. When I tried browsing in the evening it didnt work anymore. I tried resetting the network settings ,restarting router, modem, ipad (3) . It connect through my android phone when I put it into access mode. MAC filtering is off on my router. I even tried turing it on and input the ipad MAC address. Nothing works.

Is it possible that ipad updated itself automatically during the day? I have version 8.1.1, though the last update I remember is 8.0.2

Oh, I also tried without any security on the router. Also did not work. My wife's Ipad 1 works normally, as well as the 2 laptops and two android phones. So, anybody know anything more???

I had the same problem with an iPad Air 2 with incorrect password issues. I have AirPort Extreme (base station), iPhone 5 and MacBook Pro. Although my WiFi works fine on my iPhone and MacBook, it just did not work on iPad. I tried everything, resetting network as well as resetting all content and settings on iPad, unplugging AirPort, changing password on WiFi, etc. I even returned the first iPad and replaced with a new one. Nothing seemed to work. WiFi on my iPad worked fine at Apple Store however. What worked for my case was resetting the AirPort base to a "factory default reset", using the reset button, opened AirPort Utility from my MacBook and created a new network. After that, all of my Apple products (iPad, iPhone, and MacBook) are connected to my WiFi network.

After tearing my hair out to add my Ipad to the network and trying everything hear and elsewhere , I was told to do a factory reset on my router , don't know why , but it worked for me

Maybe I'll try this at home, but the problem persists at work and I cant ask the admin to do a factory reset. well, I did, but he just laughed I tried connecting at the airport, where the WiFi was completely free, not needing a password and it worked. So, there is definitely something wrong with secure logging. The only thing I did not try, is doing a factory reset on ipad, but I have to do a backup first.

NOTE: I solved my problem, so look at end of my note, but wanted to make sure my circumstances and what I tried were clear.

I have had no problems connecting iPhone 5 and iPad 2 for over a year to any wireless network, whether corporate, home, airport, or retail.  In the past 4 weeks, my iPhone stopped connecting in some places.  I thought that upgrading both devices to iOS 8 would be a good idea.  That did not solve the problem for the iPhone, and then the iPad stopped working on certain networks today.

I tried all suggestions I found on this site: reset device, reset router, check allowed MAC addresses on router, forget network, reset network settings on device.  None worked.

Finally, I saw one comment (maybe in this thread?) about simply changing the wireless password on my router.  That simple change worked - obviously not feasible on other networks one wants to connect to, but nevertheless, it worked.  I would have thought that resetting network settings would have done the trick, apparently not.

    Hope this helps.

I ran into the problem of my  iPad 2 on iOS 8 no longer being able to connect to my MediaLink router. Long story, but I was attempting to configure a network extender via the iPad. After determining that the extender wouldn't communicate with my router I discovered my iPad could no longer connect to the router. Went through the standard checks. Everything else in household could log in to router, iPad could log into iPhone hotspot, turned off wifi in location services, reset network settings, reset all settings (ugh). I wasn't very excited about wiping my iPad and restoring my apps. This thread helped me consider some other less drastic options. I deduced it was something about the handshake between the iPad and the router. I didn't have a network sniffing tool, but guess the 'password not valid' error was inaccurate for the problem. Tried adding/removing MAC address to block/allow on router. No help. Finally tried resetting the SSID password. Yes! Success! Reset password back to original password. iPad worked fine and I didn't need to reconfigure everything in the house.

I have no idea how the iPad got into the state, but it did. Seems like 'forgetting' the network credentials doesn't effectively forget and the reset Network Settings doesn't fully reset all settings. Is there a good network sniffing app that could have reported the actual error instead of relying on the unhelpful user message?

I had the same problem and tried all! I found this website and step 2 actually worked! I couldn't believe it. 3 months with this issue finally solved.

After doing this I tried again connecting to my home Wifi and it connected. Then I turned on the Wi-Fi Net working (even that I don't know what this do) and I was still connected.

    2: Disable a Wi-Fi System Service Setting

If resetting network settings did nothing for you, you may want to experiment with toggling off a wi-fi system setting. MacRumors reports that some users have had a positive impact by disabling this setting, though it’s not entirely clear what exactly this specific setting controls (it is possible it’s a wi-fi based geolocation service, hence why it’s in Location Services settings).

Head to the Settings app, go to “Privacy” and then to “Location Services”, where at the bottom you will find “System Services”, then flip the switch to disable Wi-Fi Networking. This does NOT turn off wireless networking in iOS.

it worked the other way around for me! very weird! I had my wi-fi networking option disabled earlier when i faced the "incorrect password" issue. I tried enabling it and walaaaa it worked for me! i think there is no permanent / fixed solution for this for now. So we need to do trial and error until something works for us. Apple please help us!

Have had this issue for 3 months and just fixed.

    Device types - Ipad 3, iphone 5s, ipad 2

iOS versions - All various versions of iOS 8

    Wifi -  AT&T U-verse

    Steps I took -

    - Reset network connections on the ipad - didn't work

    - unplugged router - didn't work

    - checked the MAC address list on the router settings - nothing on this list/didn't work

    - But I checked the MAC list to Deny (from disable/deny/allow list), which would deny any Wifi ID on that list, this worked!!

Can't explain it, but this should've done nothing since my MAC list was blank anyways. May have unintentionally tricked the glitch but so far this worked. Thanks all!!

I got this problem on my iPhone 5 after updating to 8.1.2

I randomly lost access to my wifi on my iphone and no amount of password entry would solve it. Tried resetting network settings etc. I use a BT hub3, by the way and that has always been rock solid.

All my other devices, ipad, appletv, macbook etc were fine. I figured I would try changing the WPA key on the hub, and lo and behold it worked (i changed the last character from a 6 to a 7) obviously, I then lost access from my macbook so I re-joined the network on that, and set the password back on the router to the one ending in 6.

My ipad then was able to work as before and I was able to join the iphone5 to the network once more. Very odd.

The only thing I can think is that Apple have introduced a new feature to change the mac address on the wifi to prevent snooping...

I wonder if this feature has caused a temporary glitch on my hub as it got introduced? I am sure my wifi mac address is now different to what it was in the past, looking at the hub records. Perhaps my hub thought another device was trying to spoof my iphone, and stopped it connecting, Who knows, but yes - changing the wifi password and changing it back certainly helped me.
