Keyboard Shortcuts do not sync anymore (iCloud, OSX 10.9.5 & iOS 8)

Hey everyone,

since I updated my iPhone 5 and iPad (3. Gen.) to iOS 8 all my keyboard shortcuts are gone and don't sync anymore between the devices.

On my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.9.5) the keyboard shortcuts are still there. (Probably because Yosemite isn't out yet)

Until I updated to iOS 8 everything worked just fine.

I tried to figure out what the settings have to be and I found that article including a video:

http://9to5mac.com/2014/01/04/how-to-create-and-sync-keyboard-shortcuts-between- ios-7-and-mavericks/

  • iCloud is activated on every device
  • Documents and Date is enabled

Don't know why apple would have switched off that pretty need feature...

Any idea, what I could do?

Thanks in advance.

I was having the same "coming & going" problem with keyboard shortcuts after updating my iPhone 5S and iPad Air to iOS 8. I tried everything in this and other threads including restoring the devices. The only thing that worked for me was upgrading to iCloud Drive on my iOS devices. After doing so, my shortcuts are back and work perfectly.

You are one of the lucky ones!

My keyboard shortcuts were disappearing and reappearing, daily or hourly, about 50% reliable since iOS 8 update. Then did the 8.0.2 update and enabled iCloud Drive.

Since then, nothing. no shortcuts working at all on iPad Air. They show up in Settings.. General.. Keyboard.. Shortcuts.. but they do not work at all. Rebooted every day, three days now, no joy. Keyboard Shortcut function on my iPad Air is broken.

My shortcuts on my iPhone have stopped working reliably since updating my iPhone 5S to iOS 8 and also on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8, iOS 8.0.1, and iOS 8.0.2. The same thing happened with iOS 6. My comments about the problems with keyboard shortcuts on iOS 6 are still on these boards. Restarting my phone makes them come back for a short time but they eventually stop working again. I'm not sure why this is happening again with iOS 8 but it is pretty annoying. Maybe the next update will solve it.

Hi. I have also been facing this problem lately of iCloud not syncing my shortcuts I created on my iPhone with my Macbook Pro. At first, I've discovered that after some time (around 2-3 days) all the shortcuts on my iPhone (after I upgraded to iOS 8) went missing and the simple trick I always do is just to restart my iPhone and they'll all be back to my iPhone and it's all normal again. But, the new problem I'm facing right now is that all the shortcuts that I used to use regularly on my Macbook Pro (OS X Mavericks) are all now gone missing and I don't know how to get them back. They all went missing after I upgraded to OS X Yosemite 2 days ago. I've tried upgrading to iCloud Drive, since I couldn't even find "Documents and Data" option in the iCloud section in System Preferences, but it's not solving anything. Please help!
