Sep 23, 2014 9:35 AM in response to Billyboy1469by pedro d,Hello there, Billyboy1469.
The following Knowledge Base article provides information iPhone acceptable operating temparatures:

When using the device or charging the battery, it is normal for it to get warm. The exterior of the device functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the device to the cooler air outside.

Sep 23, 2014 7:44 PM in response to Billyboy1469by Varuneet,Did you try resetting your iPhone? That resolved both heating and battery problems for me after upgrading to IOS 8.

Sep 30, 2014 5:41 AM in response to Varuneetby Denise Woodcock,There's a few people with this problem, my own iPhone 5s began overheating this morning when using iBooks (but not any other app). I've posted in this thread:

Oct 20, 2014 7:33 AM in response to Billyboy1469by KateC14,I just updated to iOS8 and my phone is noticeably hot as well. Never had the problem before the update. I have done a hard reset (had to in order to "activate" iMessage).
It would be nice if more testing is done before issuing an update.
