Q: iPhone 6 "Restoring from iCloud Backup" forever

Hi folks,

My iPhone 6 spent many hours retrieving my apps when I first set it up; in fact the next morning I had to coax it along by tapping on a few of the not-yet-downloaded apps in order to get them to fully download. But I think they're all here now, and all my data seems to have arrived as well. (This was all via WiFi, not through a cable to iTunes.)

BUT

The iPhone continues to say "Restoring from iCloud Backup." It's been two days so far. This morning I plugged the phone into and used iTunes to trigger an iCloud backup. (No backups had occurred with this phone yet, and I feared they never would be since the phone thinks it's in restore mode.)

Even after my backup was complete, the phone STILL says "Restoring from iCloud Backup."

Help?

I Had the same problem. I went to iCloud, moved down to Backup stopped Restore & then went back to Software Update & tapped Install & it happened smoothly. Have lost nothing.

"Settings --> iCloud --> Backup and then selecting "Stop restoring iPhone."

I need to know how do you get into the phone when your phone is busy restoring from iCloud.  I mean after I press the home button, the unlock screen appears, and after unlocking it, the next screen displays:  Restore from iCloud, with the status bar below and the indication:  Time remaining:  About 3 hours.

I don't understand how one can access Settings from here, please explain to me.

    Thanks a lot

My iPhone 5 no longer worked and I paid full price for an iPhone 6splus. My iPhone is still restoring from the iCloud as of three days later. I am missing photos and I don't know what else. The iCloud is the only place with a back up, and I do not have the old phone (magic*poof* it's now a brick!) to restore via cable/computer/iTunes. How can I get my pictures back and finish the restore so I can back up this phone (just in case anything happens again.) (Honestly, the way things are going, I feel like Dresden and any electronics I touch go kerflooey. LOL) Any helpful advice will be much appreciated.

I am in this very big boat. My upgrade was iphone 4S to iphone 6 via icloud and stuck restoring after 3 days. I also have this problem where you can't access anything other than the restore screen so can't figure out how others can check the status of what's been downloaded to new phone and what's missing. I guess it's just a council of despair and hoping the problem will go away from Apple.

I posted with this same issue. I found a solution that worked for me. First, the initial restore was somehow corrupted, so I started the process over again. This time all my photos and applications (except one) came through. I deleted and reinstalled the one that didn't make it over and said "Waiting" no matter what. Then, any applications that had a "1" in the upper right had corner, I updated. But the real solution, for me, anyway, was to go into my phone's contacts Verizon usually asks if you want to sync contacts, and there is usually a "1" in the upper right corner of this application. This time there wasn't, but I decided to check anyway. Once I clicked on this application, it asked if I wanted to sync contacts. I replied Yes. I don't know if phones through other providers have a similar application on the phone, but if they do, it might be worth a try. Once the sync was completed, within approximately 30 seconds, the Restore was completed. I then initiated a backup to the cloud which took less than one hour. That also completed. None of this was through the computer, it was all on wifi via the cloud. Then I was able to get the bluetooth in my car to work with my phone. I am now satisfied.

Sorry, what I don't understanding is what is one supposed to do when phone stuck on the restore screen and physically impossible to access other festures to check (I put this in earlier post).

Do I just switch phone off then back on, try another restore, go back to old phone and this time back up to itunes etc etc??

Did you managed to find a fix? I have the same problem, lots of photos greyed out, initially they started reappearing from greyness but now its stuck. my voice memos have not been restored yet too, other than that most have been restored. When I go to settings > icloud > backup, it is off even though it still says 'your iPhone is still being restored.' I do not have any other local backups sadly

Hey guys, i did not read the whole topic, but i have the same problem - restoring forever - and here is what i found.

I've inspected some of the logs of my stuck iPad Air 2 on iOS 9.2 and it appears  that the restore process is stuck while trying to restore an app that is no longer available in the app store. In my case it is an app with bundle identifier com.travellerstudio.dlmusic2.

I've tried rebooting, but this does not help at all - the process is constantly trying to install this app over and over again.

I hope apple engineers are reading these topics, so here my log. Look for backupd process.

I managed to fix this issue.

Basically you have to install an app with the same bundle identifier in order to unstuck the process.

This can be done either if you have the ipa file in iTunes or if you have access to a developer account you can just create an app and install it trough Xcode.

    I did the second one:

    0. Make sure you have an apple developer account.

    1. Generate a new AppID with the same bundle identifier, or with a wildcard bundle identifier.

    2. Generate a new provisioning profile for the AppID and your device

    3. Create a new project from template in xcode and se its bundle identifier to be exact same as the problematic one

    4. Install and Run the app from Xcode, then Stop it.

    5. Reboot your device - and voala - the restore process has finished.

I'm going to  submit a bug report to app regarding this.

Had this problem with an iPhone 6 Plus (128G) on ios 9.2. Tried multiple wifis, but my phone is forever stuck at the screen showing "Restore from iCloud/ Time remaining: estimating...".

    Much quicker than cableing:

go to settings, go to icloud, go to back up and stop restoring...easy peasy lemon squeezy!
