10.6.8 Bluetooth mouse has quit. But the mouse works with laptop and Mavericks.

OSX 10.6.8 iMac - Bluetooth mouse has quit. Batteries are good and the mouse works on Maverick laptop. It seems something is wrong in the operating system. I can't do a Safe Boot from the keyboard. Your thoughts, please.
