iOS 8 Traffic Conditions Widget does not appear

Just got an iPhone 6, and also have an iPhone 5s with an upgraded OS (now at 8). When I pull down the Notifications Center, scroll to the bottom and then press "Edit", I see that there is a native "Traffic Conditions" fixed to the top of the Widgets section.

It is a great idea, but it never displays anything. I am assuming the Traffic Conditions come from Apple Maps, but the widget does not display any data regardless of any of these scenarios:

1. Apple Maps Closed

2. Apple Maps Open, but no route selected and not navigating

3. Apple Maps Open and route selected, but not navigating.

4. Apple Maps Open, route selected and navigating.

Does anyone know how, when or why the "Traffic Conditions" widget is used?

THANK YOU!

Hi Nymaestro,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

You may have to adjust the Privacy settings on your iPhone before Traffic Conditions are able to be displayed. You can find that and more information about Notification Center in the iPhone User Guide that is linked below.

Notification Center

Note: To include traffic conditions for your commute (iPhone 4s or later) in the Today tab, make sure Frequent Locations is turned on in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Frequent Locations.

I hope this helps.

I have also tried all the sugestions listed here and trafiic is still not showing in notification center. I checked with everyone I know that has an iphone and after following the set-up instructions here Traffic did not show up on their devices either. Can any confirm that it is working on their device? I'm thinking it's just not working period.

To further answer your question, the traffic condition widget is designed to give you an estimate as to how long it will take for you to get to a place that you normally would be. Example, if you work in Atlanta every tuesday at 6pm the iPhone will begin telling you "it will take about 30 mins to drive to Atlanta."

Again, the device needs time to learn your daily habits. Once it learn where you normally are at all times of the day, then the widget will work. See the picture below. User uploaded file

I am thinking there is a bug. On my iPhone 6 the Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services -> Frequent Locations - > History has "Home" clearly labeled as 25 visits and "Work" clearly labeled as 19 visits. These span from 9/26/2014 - today 10/10/14. So, Location Services obviously has my work and home figured out correctly. Regardless, this feature still does not work. Barring some magical hold down timer, it sure looks like a bug to me.
