Q: iPhone 6 Plus Screen Orientation Sticks

I have an iPhone 6 Plus, 64GB. I am having the followign issue:

My screen will either get stuck in landscape or upside down. Yes, I said upside down. There are times I will unlock the the phone and when the home screen comes up, everything is upside down, just like an iPad would be when you turn it around. Even when I spin the phone around, trying to get it to turn the screen, it won't rotate the icons. I hit the power button, and unlock it again, but it doesn't always fix it. Last time it was stuck, I had to power the phone off and back  on before it would work right again.

I have checked the orientation lock button, and it is not activate.

I have checked to see if my screen is regular or zoom and it is set to regular.

Anyone else seeing this? I wonder if it is a bug with hardware that controls orientation?

Huh.  A full week now, and I've not had this problem once since upgrading to 8.1.  I was just waiting a full week before declaring victory.

Monoblock, are you saying you're experiencing the stuck screen orientation on iOS 8.1?  Or that you were experiencing it before and now you're on 8.1 and hoping not to experience it?  (I can parse your sentence either way.)

I still have this problem.  I also don't believe its hardware related.  I had this problem with iOS 7 in the Podcast app, and the podcast app only.  Then when I upgraded my 5 to ios 8 it was everywhere.  Very frustrating.  Now I have the iphone 6 plus (64gb) and it does it all the time.  It seems to have helped it with the update to ios 8.1, but the problem still persists.... half the time when it gets stuck the only thing I can do is use the control panel and lock the orientation, which then changes it back portrait.

I have the same problem and it's aggravating! I've only had the phone 24hrs and did the update to 8.1. You wait a month to get the phone then have to deal with some crap like this. Apple we expect more!

I been experiencing the same issue. I've tried the orientation lock. I also tried changing the views. Should I return my device or is this really an software issue that needs patching. I've only had my device for almost four days.

Before you return the phone, make sure the phone is not in Zoom mode. I set mine to standard and have not had the problem since.

II'm not sure if it's hardware or software but it has not happened since they replaced my phone almost a month ago.

This is happening to my iPhone 6 64gb too.  The phone gets stuck in orientation all the time.

So after starting this thread I hadn't seen the problem. But that all changed this weekend. It has started again. Not often, but has happened twice just this weekend.

I used to run this issue all the time prior to upgrading to 8.1 version. Now I experience it once in a while.

iPhone 6 Plus 128GB. Similar orientation issues. My phone often fails to rotate properly. However, it is sometimes too responsive and sometimes unresponsive.

There are times where the smallest movement of my hand has the orientation rotating and then popping back. Other times, it fails to rotate at all (often in text messages). I can close out the apps (swiping up on double click) and it will sometimes fix the issue. No, I do not have the zoom feature enabled, no, it is not user error with the "lock screen" button turned on.

One interesting point to add (which I'd be interested to see if others experience). If I go to the text screen in portrait mode and it is "stuck" in portrait, I can hold the phone in landscape and shake the phone until the "undo typing" notification pops up. The notification will be in landscape, but the text message itself will still be stuck in portrait.

I can sometimes hold my phone in landscape and the home page will rotate properly. But, if I then enter the text messaging screen, I will see a flash of the correct landscape orientation before it pops back to portrait (even though I'm still holding the phone in landscape).

I would love to know if this is hardware or software related. Too me, it seems to be software.

It seems to be a bug with iOS8.  It has been happening of late on my 5C as well, and I've never had the issue prior to the most recent iOS8 updates.

I'm having the same issue with my 6+ 128gb. Happened since I first got it, noticed it particularly with the mail app, but there's have been all sorts of weird orientation issues. The weirdest is when some of the screen is upside down, but spring board isn't. I put in a request to have it repaired, lets hope Apple does the right thing.

Same thing is happening to me since updating to 8.1.1. I have to lock it on portait just to function. I have tried removing the update and it won't allow it. It happens on imessage and google hangouts. I'm also getting a "undo type" message almost every time I try to write in both these apps. I'm so frustrated, spent my whole day backing up and restoring, hoping to fix it. No luck.
